irrational dislike for a namesake song - how to get over it

DH has thrown in a last minute contender for a girls name (actually I think I was the one to mention it but DH picked up on this one instead of the hundred others I put out there recently) - it is Cecilia. I also kind of like it BUT am having a problem disassociating the Simon and Garfunkel song from the name. I am not a fan of the song, in fact you could probably say hate the song. I've always been the type of person who says that pop culture references should not really taint your decision on choosing a name but I am really afraid that I will hear this song repeatedly sung back to me/my daughter (especially from my MIL and annoying DH uncles as well as random people). This song (actually the artists) really does my nut in which is something that was passed down to me from my late father who considered them (how do I put this politely) as the bane of popular music. He took his music seriously and so do I and I feel like I would be dishonouring him.

Am I being irrational here? Please tell me that people will not sing this back upon hearing her name or is this name so tightly associated with the song that it cannot be untangled?

P.s. Cecily is not an option and DH doesn't like Celia. Oh, and he likes the song.

Putting aside the song (which I agree, is dire) you say you "kind of like" the name.

That's not good enough, even without the song.....

Thinking caps back on, I'd say.

PS I don't like the name either, all those sssss sounds.

My previous neighbour had a Cecile, I thought it a lovely/diffrtent name.

The song is a really strong link to the name, though, and is probably the first link to the name. Say I liked Jill but hated "jack and Jill" - there are many other "popular" Jill references to reduce the strength of the link.
How about Amelia, Emilia type names?

I have to say I started singing it in my head...! I would never do it out loud but hard not to associate. I could not stop singing laila (again not out loud)when my cousin first had her wee one but I dont do it at all now

I don't like the song or them either so it would put me off. What about Cordelia, Celeste, Cornelia, Catalina?

I have a Cecilia and I love the song. In fact I Chose Cecilia over Cecily because of the song link (we take music very seriously in this house too!). You seem to have an irrational hatred of a really very talented musician Wink. Obviously people have different tastes but it's a bit odd to think that Paul Simon is the bane of popular music. He is an extraordinary songwriter, even if he's one you don't like personally. It's not like it's by Stock Aitken and Waterman! Or Miley Cyrus.

But if you don't like it then it might not be right for you because yes, DD gets it sung to her all the time but it's fine cos she loves it.

I don't generally consider myself an annoying person but as soon as I see or hear the name Cecilia I have to stop myself from singing 'that song'.

Maybe not as hazardous as calling her Delilah but she would get to know the song very, very well.

And it's a crap song.

Not a great song. And have you heard the version by Suggs??!!! Confused

Cecily is a far, far prettier name.

I think it's ok. People sing the Ali g song to me and while it is annoying, it's only because the song was around when we were young. Kids or teenagers probably won't hear cecilia that much?
