It's lovely DD has a friend called that.

I know a few little girls called Esme. It's fairly popular, but not overly so. I like it. It's pretty without being girly flowery name that is so ubiquitous at the moment.

Very pretty. Unfortunately it sounds daft with our surname! I know of one pronounced 'ez-me' which i don't find as pretty as 'ez-may'.

Be careful, it's very very common here, I know loads (Devon)

Lovely but becoming very popular

I like it. Again it's getting quite popular around here

I don't like how it sounds at all, sounds like a weird sneeze, hiccup or a long cough, but you can't please everyone.

I know an Ez-may and an Es-mee. Be prepared for people getting the pronunciation wrong as I've seen regular heated debates here on the correct pronunciation Grin

It's very pretty (prefer the Ez-may pronunciation myself) but definitely getting more popular!

It's pretty common now. I know 3 baby Esmes - it's actually the only name that's duplicated amongst DD's gang of baby friends. It's alright. I don't love it, or hate it, just meh.

Yes, people get very uppity about the ezmay v ezmee pronunciation.

It's become common because of Twilight.

Really nice. I know two - my niece (nearly 20) and one in her mid-teens. Both pronounce it Ez-mee.

Esme was 65th in the top 100 names for girls in Engand and Wales in 2012, and is rising in popularity, according to government statistics:

I would assume it's es-me. I think she'll have a lifetime of correcting people.

I do like this name and looked into it awhile ago. It is of French orgin but also strongly linked to Scotland as it was were it first came into fashion. Can't remeber the whole story thanks to baby brain. Also there are 2 spellings Esme and Esmee one which is traditionally masculine and the other traditionally feminine. Again, don't remember which is which but you may want to look into it if your going to go for this name.it is very pretty and refined but as other MNershave pointed out really getting popular.

It's a lovely name, but there are a load of them out there.

I'd say Ez-may, and it's a lovely name.

Alisvolatpropiis · 12/04/2014 22:36

I like it.

I would assume Ez-may.

First time I heard Ez-mee I was a bit Confused. Sounds wrong to me.

I only know one and she's an old lady. I don't much like it.

Esme (Es-mee or Ez-mee) is lovely. I knew a few as a child (I'm late 30's) and I now know a few aged 1-6. Yes, it's quite popular and may still continue to be for a few years yet but if that's not an issue for you then no problem.

The Ez-may pronunciation is awful to my ears! I'm from the west country so I imagine someone with a full on Vicky Pollard accent giving it "ere, Ezmay, go an' buy me some faaaaaaags". If you're not in the West Country, this probably won't be an issue for you. Smile

DD is Esmé (Ezmay), she is 3.5, Ive come across a couple since she was born but dont know any. Never had a problem with pronunciation either, those who know us call her Ezmay those who ask her name call her Ezmay because thats how we say it. I chose the name 15years ago and still adore it now.
