We can't find a boys name we love. I really struggle to get enthusiastic about any of them. The short list is:

Robin
George
Bertie

Which one of these would you go for?

I love Bertie - it was on our shortlist but DH wasn't keen.

Would you have gone for Bertie as the full name or had a Sunday best name, like Albert?

Favourite of those three is George.

I'd go for either Robin or Bertie. I think George is going to be come quite popular.

Bertie ? Are you having a child or a puppy.

Bertie could also be short for Robert, and that is a bit like your choice of Robin, covering both options!

George has been popular for a few years already, ds has a few I. His year and he's 12. Still love it but my gf was a George. Bertie, I prefer Albert or Robert. Hate Robin.

George is lovely but you will get the annoying "oh, after Prince George" comments.

I like Robert, which gives you a choice of nns: Bertie, Bert, Rob, Robbie, Bobby, etc. If you were thinking of Rob/Robbie as nns for Robin, Robert would give you that option.

Oh, xposted with Mim78 re Robert!

My grandad, bless him, was Bertie, short for Herbert. You could also use Robert, Albert, Bertram,Gilbert, Hubert, Norbert and um..... Englebert!!

Robin is nice, understated and unfussy.

George would be out for me as I wouldn't want the Royal connection. It's a nice name but needs a cooling off period of a few years after Prince George.

Bertie is a nickname - I like Albert a lot.

Robert for Bertie.

Thanks for the unanimous verdict!
I agree about George being associated with Prince George. We had picked it before the royals had their baby, so feeling a bit annoyed about that! We would have used it without question if it hadn't been for that.

Robin - we both like but somehow I can't get excited about it. I just think it's a nice straight forward name.

Bertie - we love and that's what we call him at the moment. It started off as a silly nickname for the bump, but it has stuck. I would like to call him Albert with Bertie as a nickname, but our DD's name also starts with "Al", so I think that would be a bit odd.

Not sure where to go from here!

Bertram?

Something like Alice and Albert would sound fine imo. Different enough. I know an Alice and Alistair which I think sounds too similar. Some times you can get away with it.

Gargh! We had a big discussion last night and seem to have ruled all these names out! Now DH likes my suggestions of Gabriel or Peter. He likes Edward too, but I'm not keen.

I think George will be a bit less popular now as everyone will be put off by prince G?
