Baby names

The bold and the beautiful...

So our dd1 has a rather unusual/bold name that we love (Briar) however struggling to 'match' it with a name for dd2. We like Margaret but is it too traditional (however beautiful) that it sounds odd with dd1?

Don't think it sounds like an odd pairing at all. Like both names. Abbreviations of Margaret are also nice.

I think it sounds like an odd pairing. If I met a Briar and Margaret I'd assume the parents had wildly different tastes and got to name a child each.

Also, I don't think Margaret is even a little bit beautiful. It yells 'dowdy' to me. Sorry.

No need to apologise Squoosh one persons dowdy is another persons beauty, I think we would use maggie if that sits better? It's the matching point u make that is my concern!

I don't think briar and Margaret are a good combo think Margaret will be jealous of her sisters name forever

Agree with Fifi.

Maggie doesn't fit either. Sorry.

What about:
Hazel
Seren
Skyler (although you will be taken for a 'Breaking Bad' fan at the moment, but that will pass)

I don't think they go either. Something more nature like would go better. Maybe a flower name? Or something like the below.

Daisy
Rosemary
Hebe
Iris
Ivy
Willow or Willa
Violet
Indigo
Juniper
Cressida.

As I suspected... Obviously do love nature names, but prefer not to go with a theme, ideally looking for a name that is either historical, from literature, classic but underused or considered different... also long surname so not too many syllables :/

Agree with the suggestion of Marguerite. It 'goes' better with Briar if that's bothering you (personally I don't give a rat's arse about matching names of siblings) and is quite simply a beautiful name.

Kind of agree rhubarb but it's more the earlier point made that one girl will wonder why she has the 'plain' name and the other why she has the 'strange' name :)

I like marguerite but it's too long and slightly fussy for our surname :(

Ooh 2468 what's the west country connection? Our surname ends in a 'un' sound so not the best flow - but do love Merryn!

If it's any help, I know a Briar and a Fable who are twins and would be about 7-8 now :)

Although when I told my mum at the time, she said, ''What are they, babies or woodland nymphs?''

But then, my mother thinks the name ''Lola'' (my current favourite) is too 'out there'.... Hmm
