Ok, so I am expecting no.2, and if bump turns blue we are very much considering Gabriel. However, ds1 is called Michael - is this archangel overload? Would people make the connection? I think I might if it were someone else. I promise not to call my next one Raphael!! Hmm

I would make the connection because I have an Archangel too but I promise I wouldn't think any less of you. No. 3 may feel horribly left out if he has a mortals name.

Haha, well in that case...

I'm just not sure whether it might come across as a bit silly! I'm rubbish at boys' names so there aren't many I would consider! Gabriel's OH's choice... his other is Constantine... which I can't even consider because my Gran's best friend is Connie and it reminds me of her!

I wouldn't make the connection. In fact until now I didn't know Michael was an Archangel. Blush

I love all three Archangel names especially Gabriel and Raphael :)

I thought you wanted to call him Archangel so Gabriel is much better!

How did I know Gabriel and Raphael were Archangels but not Michael?!

Something has gone wrong there.

I love Gabriel. So what if people do make the connection...?

Not a problem IMO, I thought at first you were saying you had a Rafael and were considering Gabriel, now that might be overkill.

I have no idea what an archangel is so plough on.

I used to go out with a chap called Michael who had brothers called Rafael and Gabriel (their mother was of Spanish origin, and they didn't even notice it until they had named the second, and then when they had a third son thought they might as well). He said people didn't notice, and I did witness someone trying to work it out, mentioning renaissance painters and not even thinking of archangels.

Beautiful names. I always wanted a Michael.

I actually have a cousin called Arcangela (with an accent somewhere).

We've got a Michael, I really wanted to call his twin brothers Gabriel and Raphael they are such lovely names. However I was overruled and the twins have a couple of different biblical names!

Hi - I'm so pleased you have put up this thread. My dd is called Gabriella and I am keen on the name Rafael for expected ds. Nice to hear that people don't think this is a problem - as mentioned on other threads I am finding names difficult!

I do really like the name Michael as well but I have a very good friend whose ds is called that.

There is a fourth archangel called Uriel apparently, which I must say I am not so keen on!

I don't actually believe in angels - I just really like the names!

I'd definitely make the connection (convent school) but I bet most people wouldn't. Add a Raphael to the mix though and I'd assume you had delusions of heavenly grandeur on your kids' behalf Grin

PS- squoosh funny you should mention convent school because I did start liking the name Rafael after my friend told me it was the name of her house at school (this was before Rafael Nadal was famous - shows how long I have liked it!).

There is only one archangel mentioned in the Bible and this is Michael. Obviously Gabriel is an angel but we aren't told he's an archangel. So it's only a potential angel-overload rather than an archangel-overload, if that makes the decision any easier. Wink

You could always go for Lucifer, the fallen archangel! He would probably turn out to be the most well behaved and polite young child.

Thank you all so much for your comments! I kinda do think, 'so what' about the connection, but just wanted to air it 'publically' before going for it! My mum suggested Gabriel when I was having DS1 but I vetoed it immediately. But this time around the more I think about it the more I'm falling in love with it!

squoosh - I think they all go through a 'Lucifer' stage anyway! Grin

Mim78 - are you going to go for it?

sqoosh Loving Lucifer - brilliant idea Wink

CinnamonSummer - not sure if I will go for it yet as am only 21 weeks so plenty of time to change mind to and from... Probably will not decide finally until baby is born, but really like the name. Nothing else has grabbed me in the same way. The name I liked first in first pregnancy of all was Gabriel, but then found out I was having a girl and went with Gabriella which is kind of a family name.

Please let me know if you go with Gabriel though. It is a gorgeous name.

I have a friend who has two flower names for daughters and no one has ever questioned that.

Interested that many people are not even aware these are archangel/angel names (although as dd goes to Catholic school teachers will probably realise this!). On the other hand I didn't know there was an angel Raphael/Rafael until met above mentioned friend at Uni and I went to Catholic school. Had one mad teacher at primary school who was obsessed with angels and believed in them very literally, stating "they were all boys with blond hair". Not sure this is official doctrine in any given church! Total digression but makes me laugh...

Lucifer just reminds me of the cat in Cinderella Grin

I like Gabriel (and the nn Gabe), but dont know Archagels so would never have made that connection with Michael.

I like Raphael!

Michael isn't overly saintly I suppose (I blame Marks and Sparks).

I have a little boy called Gabriel Seamus Michael - so both names in there! We decided on Sebastian for our second little man but now pregnant with our third. Not sure on the gender yet but if a boy I love Raphael, my dh is not so keen due to the obvious archangel association. I don't think it's a problem at all, most folks unless religious don't make the connection anyway. I love angelic names, if I have a girl, Seraphina and Raphaella are on the list x

I said I would come back and let you know what I did.

I have had ds and called him Rafael to go with Gabriella. Dh wanted Michael for middle name at ozone stage but I thought too much!
