Baby names

Which names do you like for a boy and give me ideas for girls names

DSJamesHathaway · 13/09/2013 18:39

The list I have so far is:
Bertram
Cecil
Everard
Gilbert
Grayson
Joshua
Laurence
Miles
Sebastian
Stuart
Theodore
Timothy
Toby

I really like Grayson. The only ones DH likes are Timothy and Stuart.

Girls names I like are Cecily, Celeste, Beatrice but there isn't one I love.

Thoughts?

Ultimately it's down to what you and your dh want/like but looking at your boy's list I think Joshua seems to be very popular atm. I like Grayson too and also Sebastian but you'll get different answers from others I bet.

The girls names are lovely too. Sometimes it's worth looking at the baby and seeing what name it 'fits', if that makes sense.

Do you think Grayson is a manly name? I do, but DH thinks it's a bit flouncy.

Bertram - love it
Cecil - no
Everard - erm it's okay but much prefer Edward/Edmund
Gilbert - no: sorry but I think it sounds like a joke name
Grayson - hate this, sorry
Joshua - it's okay
Laurence - love it
Miles - ok
Sebastian - like it
Stuart - hate this, sorry
Theodore - fine
Timothy - love it
Toby - fine

Love Cecily.

Clover?
Susannah?
Sylvie?
Verity?
Vivienne?
Violet?
Claudia?
Louisa?

Really not a fan of Susannah or Sylvie. Both sound quite dated to me, although someone is shouting in my ear that Sylvie is really nice. Not keen on virtues as names either. Violet is a family name and I really like it but DH has vetoed.

I tried!

Esme? Elise? Gwendoline? Estelle? Florence? Elizabeth? Simone? Isolde? Ishbel? Just throwing out names at random here btw!

Florence I love! Gwendoline makes me think of Enid Blyton for some reason. Esme is nice. Elise is ok but not amazing. I've seen Isolde on quite a few baby name threads - how is it pronounced?

Like Bertram and Grayson.

Sebastian and Theodore are lovely too though more popular if that bothers you.

First thought to add to your girls list was Florence.

Stella
Willow
Saffron
Flora
Scarlett
Clover
Rosalie
Evangeline
Merryn
Rosalind
Hermione
Harriet
Jemima
Lydia
Martha

Why are girls names so hard?!
The only one DH an I both love is Oliva but it is so over used! Lawrence is my fav, that was our boys name before we found out little one was a girl!

Of your boys names I like Bertram, Sebastian, Timothy and Theodore. I really dislike Grayson. I know some v Canadian 'chav' parents who have one, and a Brittany-Leigh, so that puts me right off.
Girl suggestions:
Cecilia
Arianna
Juliana
Juliet
Matilda
Alyssa
Seren
Dorothea
Margaret
Annette
Imogen

I love your girls' names - Cecily, Celeste and Beatrice are all gorgeous, elegant and not overused!

I'm not that keen on your boys' names list but I do love Quentin, Clement, Calvin and Austin as suggested below.
