Is this too Christmassy?

I'm due on Boxing Day and am mulling over some ideas of names but was wondering if Ivy Noelle is just too Christmassy and twee? I also like Iris Noelle which is less festive I suppose.

Help!

I have a Christmas name / birthday and it sucks. Please do not do this to your child.

It's lovely. I'd go with a Christmassy name if I gave birth at Christmas. And it won't be Christmas most of he year round so most people won't make a connection most of the time!

Not both, Ivy or Noelle.

I agree with starballbunny, one or the other, both is a bit OTT. Iris Noelle is lovely

I know people with a Christmas eve and boxing day birthdays - Called Stella and Carol respectively. Both are quite christmassy without being too ott and I think they both quite like them.

I wouldn't think Stella is a Christmas name? Or am I being thick?

Stella means star I think, as in the star the wise men saw?

Christmas birthdays are tough enough without adding to it with an ott Christmassy name IMO.

I like the idea of using one festive name. I have a friend born on Christmas eve with the middle name simply 'Eve'. Our third son was actually born at home during heavy snow on 1st December and we gave him the middle name Winter which I love as it is also an old family surname we've brought back down the line! We did joke to the registrar that we wanted his middle name to be snowball but she wasn't amused. It is a magical time of year and I think a subtle reference is nice :)

Ooh and i believe Estelle means star too!

Iris is nice with the middle name or ivy and a non wintery name but both together is v twee and a bit crap if she decides to convert to eg Hinduism etc...

Bit much together.

What about Iris Holly?

Or Robyn

Hmmm, thanks everyone, I thought as much. It will have to be Xmas/winter name only I think.

My mum was born on Halloween - I wonder what options were on my grandparents list.... Pumpkin? Broomstick? Cauldron? The possibilities are endless Hmm

But seriously - why do people feel the need to name 'Christmas Babies' it is so cliche! I secretly roll my eyes when I meet people, whose birthdays are around Christmas and their name is Holly or Santa Smile

TallulahBetty · 07/09/2013 19:25

Because it's their baby and they want to? I wonder why people choose all sorts of names but it's their taste so why not Smile

The two are too, too much.

On the star theme - Seren or Astrid maybe?

BTW if I ever had a Christmas girl I would call her Holly Robyn - a bit OTT but I don't care.

I thought you meant Stella was Christmassy because people drink at Christmas!!! Lol

Iris is nice but i wouldn't use both together. I you fancy the Christmassy theme how about Santa for a girl Smile

Th question isn't really what the parents like, but what the child might like. It's their name for life, and a totally twee Christmas name is well, totally twee. Middle name territory for the obvious (Noelle) or something more subtle for a first name could work, but even then I'd think twice about it.

Betty's just reminded me - I know a little girl who's called Winter, which I think is a lovely name (and I guess works for girls or boys - I think of it as a girl's name as that's how I know it being used, but I can also see that it would work as a boy's name too).

My Christmas baby has the middle name Juniper :) I thought that was nice for the season but not too overly twee

Agree with the above, one or the other is cute but both is a bit much. Both names are lovely though, as is Iris :)

It's really, really cheesy imo. I hate birth-date themed names though, just awful. Pick a name that you like all year round, give her the same name as you would have done in February or July. What if she comes early? Guy Fawkes? Novemberella?
