Baby names

A nice girls name not ending in "a" or "ie"/"y" sound...

Can anyone suggest any?

I would like a name that is not cutsie if having a girl. I find the "ie"/"y" ending names too twee. dd1 does have a name ending in "a" but I would like something different.

The only names I can think of are either too old fashioned (Margaret/Ruth/Rachel etc), names of a friend's child so taken (Imogen/Abigail), my daughter's middle name (Katherine) or no good because I can't name my child after the Queen (Elizabeth)!

I'm not crazy about all of the names I've suggested, it's hard to think of names not ending in a vowel sound. I really do love Ruth though Wink

Sorry - did not mean to have a go at Ruth - it's because it was my grandmother's name that I see it as old. I can see that with fresh eyes/ears it wouldn't sound so old!

Thanks for all the ideas!

I have a Meg.

Dd2 if I ever have one will be either Olive or Juliet.

I like Vivienne and also Beatrice. Maybe I'm quite pretentious!

I really like Abigail, but it's taken in my family. A very good friend has a daughter called Mariam, otherwise I would love that too!

PS (again) what to people think of Clemence or Clementine?

Oooooo very happy you like Beatrice!

Not keen on either Clemence or clementine - sorry. Makes me think of satsumas.

I love Clementine, she was my aunties cat Grin

I have a Ruth and a Hazel - I love Celeste/Celestine, Astrid, Beatrice, Elizabeth. Not keen on Clemence or Clementine - also on the satsuma team there.

Lots of people suggested Margot for DD1, but it's my mum's name so wouldn't use it - quite like it tho. I like Marianne, Esther, Hester, Seren, Sarah, Cerys, Frances, Lauren... There are quite a lot of non-a/ie/y girls' names when you get going thinking about it, I think all our possible names were in this category.

Celestine and Astrid are my favourites (other than DD1 & DD2's names obviously Smile).

Hazel! There's another classic. Dd has a lovely friend called Hazel, she's tall and beautiful, kind and intelligent and a really nice girl.

A do like Astrid, but my husband doesn't.

Seren is nice. Iris is pretty too - reminds me of my favourite perfume!

I like Frances but it is (pretty much) my name.

Thanks for all the great suggestions!
