My dh has just announced that he loves the name Cassia to my absolute glee!! We prefer the pronounciation Cass ee ah.

So what do you think? Do you know any and what is the response to their name? Also (and I hate using this word) but would it be seen as chavvy Blush

Thanks in advance!

I like it. Not chavvy IMO. I don't know any, but I think it's really nice actually.

How else would you pronounce it?
I like it too, though on balance, probably prefer Cassie.

I like it. Cassius Clay became Muhammed Ali - would an association with a boxer bother you?

It can also be pronounced Cash a.......which I HATE as it reminds me of Kesha that awful trashy singer.

Not fond because I instantly think of cassia bark. Love Cassie though.

I read it as Cash-a in your thread title.

One correction to Cass-ee-ah would be all you need though Smile

Both are lovely.

Sorry, not keen and yes it does sound a bit chavvy IMO

I read it as Cass-ee-ah. it's a really nice name but it did make me think of Cassio (of watch & calculator fame). But I'm in my late 30's. I doubt many others would think that. And who cares if they do? Sorry, I'm waffling. Smile I really like Cass as a nn. What are the other options? Cassie, Cassandra, Cassidy, Cassiopeia, Jocasta. Catherine at a push? Or just Cass.

I like it :)

I know a lovely little Cassie and Cassius was on our boy list.

Lovely names ::)

Love it. Not trashy at all! Was on my short list but too unusual for my DH!

I really like it. It was on our shortlist for a while - has sort of fallen off now, although not on purpose, IYKWIM, and now I come to think of it I may add it back on!

Wouldn't occur to me to pronounce it any way other than Cass-ee-ah, and I would probably use the nn Cass. I think it's fairly uncommon - I don't know any others of any age.

Bark springs to mind

It's fairly uncommon only around 30 births last year, yet at the same time it doesn't sound too out there!

I also read on an old thread that Boris Johnson has a daughter called Cassia Peaches which is very cute....I don't know much about him though (as I'm in Ireland)

I quite like Cassia Primrose

I like it, actually. Much prefer Cass-ee-ah pronunciation. I also like Cadia/Kadia (pronounced the same, but with a D sound obviously).

I like it, but you may have to correct people pronouncing it cash-uh.

Boris Johnson has a Cassia Smile

I don't think it would bother me too much having to correct the pronunciation as I would only have to do it once (hopefully)

Cassia is ok, Cassie (on its own or as a NN) is very nice (and I think is very classy - if you look through the baby name charts you won't find any Cassie-Leighs or Cassie-Maes). Also like Cassidy and have a soft spot for Cassandra (though I can't make up my mind whether or not it sounds old-fashioned).

I know a grown up Cassia and I love the name. It is never shortened and no one has ever mistaken her for Kesha variations etc.
Very pretty! If you truly love it, go for it!

I'm actually getting quite excited about Cassia, I know it may not be to everyone's taste but I guess that's why it not top ten which is exactly what I want.

It is a bit of a departure for me as I generally like granny chic but can't find the one in this category!

What category would you put Cassia in?
