Baby names

Mia...

Currently compiling a list of our favourite boys and girls names for our baby due 30th January.
We both love the name Mia but I remember seeing on a MN thread someone saying that 'every little girl seems to be called Mia'.
Do other people share this opinion?

It is very popular- was high up (top 5 i think) in the recently published national stats. I'm not too keen on it, though I do know some very nice Mia's.

I don't know anyone else called Mia but I know its sometimes used as a nickname for Amelia etc.
Frustrating because every single name I like DP doesn't and every name he likes I don't. Mia is the only girls name we've been able to agree on so far. I'd love Pandora for a girl but I appreciate its a bit 'out there' so can understand DP not wanting it.

Mia is gorgeous!

There was one in dd's class a few years ago (aged 13) and there are two in dd's class (aged 6)

I don't know any others.

Mia is my cousin's daughter's name. She tells me it is short for Maria.

I only know one and she is about 7, she is beautiful and quirky so that makes me love the name.

Its a lovely name! I only know if a cat called that if it helps? Lol. I know of a Maia that was born recently, that's cute too.

I know a few, but it is a lovely name.

What about Maya? Similar, but not so popular I think.

I think it's a pretty name and popularity really depends on the area you live in, I only know of one in ds's school and shes a lovely little girl. More to the point if you and dp both like it who cares what others think! I had a similar dilemma when pg with dd we loved Delilah but others put us off and we ended up calling her a name we both liked but its getting very popular now Hmm

I know an awful lot of them, in London and the midlands. I was at a two year old's birthday party yesterday where there was an entertainer who gave out stickers with each child's name, and there were four Mias out of about twenty five children!

It's very pretty, but its popularity is augmented by it being used as a short form of Amelia, Emelia, Maria etc etc.
