Baby names

Henry or Ethan?

sheeplikessleep · 07/08/2013 09:17

We have two DSs - Oliver (Oli) and Benjamin (Ben).

We had sort of decided on Henry up to this point (I'm 37 weeks tomorrow), but DH is having concerns that it is too "posh" for us. I'm having different doubts that Henry is too similar to Ben and the 'ee' ending of Oli too.

There are no other names we particularly like. However, Ethan is one I've always liked and DH is quite open to it.

I just wondered which of the two would you go for in our situation, or any others you think we would like?

Any help appreciated - both DS1 and DS2 were born at 37 weeks, so I'm expecting things to kick off ASAP!!

Thanks

I prefer Henry. A classic name that doesn't date like your other two boys names.

See that is why I also prefer Henry too.
Just a bit concerned it is too 'samey' to our other two...

I love Henry. Although, I do know a primary school Henry who gets a lot of grief thanks to Horrid Henry. Something to keep in mind.

If it helps, brothers of Benjamins and Olivers I know are Thomas, Samuel, Harry, Anthony, Patrick, James, Frankie, Ralph, Finlay, Johnny (John) and Peter.

No I don't think Henry is too like Ben and Oli.

I much prefer it to Ethan.

Henry. Lovely name. There are a lot of Ethan's here (SE).

You could have Henry on the birth certificate, and call him Harry.

Personally not so keen on Henry, but I like Harry and Ethan.

Thanks so much for posting.
Would anything here think 'ooh, that's a bit similar to the other two?'

I have ds with same name as one of yours OP. Henry was our chosen name for dc3 a few weeks ago. Except she wasn't a boy so we didn't get to use it Sad. I love Henry. I really wanted a Henry. Dh also thought it was posh sounding, so compromise would have been Harry for everyday use.

Enjoy your new baby!

I have a Henry, so am totally biased, but I think its lovely and goes well with Ben and Oli :)

My only point would be that my Henry gets Hen a lot as a nickname, but I think Ben, Oli and Hen sounds good too..... and obviously your Henry might not get called that.

Wouldn't think similar at all! But if you chose Ethan I'd think it didn't fit with the other two names which are timeless classics. Henry is a better fit. Smile

You've all convinced me that I've spent too long thinking about this and over worrying unnecessarily!

Now I just need to convince DH that we are "posh" enough to carry it off Grin

Love Henry (one of my DDad's middle names) - it is timeless and classic. What about Ethan as a middle name?

Report
sheeplikessleep · 07/08/2013 10:21

Rogue - because our surname begins with 'L', so probably not.

We have sort of decided on Nathaniel for a middle name if we go with Henry.

love henry - not sure it is very posh these days?

Other Oli's and Ben's near here have brothers called:-

George
Daniel
Nathan
Joseph
Sam

I hate deciding on a name, is there anyone who enjoys picking a name?

I am such a worrier though.

George and Daniel I'm not keen on.
Joseph we have friends with sons called.
Nathan DH isn't keen on, as a first name anyway.
Sam is DS2s middle name.

I wouldn't go near Henry. Lovely name but it is so common. It's not a posh name anymore. Every third baby I see is called Henry. I see a lot.

I don't mind Ethan but prefer Nathan or Elliot?

I prefer Henry with Oliver and Benjamin.

I definitely prefer Henry to Ethan, but I'm very much a fan of traditional boys names. Either is fine, so just go with the one you prefer and don't over think it! Smile
