Baby names

Kit, Wilfred or Diggory... If you hate all 3, stay away!

Any opinions? Am too tired to be slated if you hate them all! I think we might chicken out and do Diggory as a second name, but dh loves the nn Digger and we know a Diggory, so it probably seems less unusual to us than it might do to others!

Diggory makes me think of The Magician's Nephew, Digger makes me think of the very sweet Shirley Hughes story.

I really like Kit as a nn for Christopher but not as a stand alone name

Not sure about Wilfred, but t fits the quirky but not stand out criteria which is always good.

Think we would have Christopher nn Kit if we used it as a first name, but if it was second name we would just have Kit. If that makes sense!
Was trying to choose between Wilf and Kit, then Diggory suddenly came up... Think we might be too chicken for it though.

PS Wilfred and Christopher (Kit) both family names

I like Kit a lot. Digger is a cute nn too, not sure about Diggory though.

I like both Kit and Diggory, not as keen on Wilf - Christopher Diggory perhaps?

I love Digby, which could also produce the nn Digger.

I could never put my finger on why I didn't like the name Wilf before A&ETW - (great name btw!) and I think that's it!

Really like Digby too.

My DH was called out for work and I can't get back to sleep - should really go and try again! He'll probably get home just as I'm drifting off

Please go and revel in sleep! - I would love to be drifting off... But newborn dictating otherwise :(

Really don't like Wilfred/Wilf. I find it a bit drippy sounding.

Like Diggory A LOT. My boys name I'd have used if DH got no say was Digby. Digger is a fun nn.

Kit is ok. I know 2. One is a dashing 30 yr old in PR, the other is a border terrier ;) I do like Christopher though.

Love Kit.

Really like Wilf too, although seem to be in the minority based on other comments. It is characterful and cool. I know a baby Wilf and it suits him.

Kit short for Christopher

I love Kit and would probably go for Christopher Diggory, but only if you don't hate Chris as you can guarantee some people will end up calling him that.

I'm not keen on Wilfred (unless it ends up as Freddie which I like).

Kit and Diggory are both brilliant!

And congratulations on your squishy newborn Flowers

I love Kit, it was on my boys name shortlist, however all the long versions seem a bit wimpy - the sort of boy who wears corduroy slacks and collects stamps. Christopher, Christian, Kitson etc.

Diggory - people will just assume you're a Harry Potter fan. Digger is the name of a dog/cartoon construction vehicle.

Wilfred is quite cool in an 'eccentric old man running a secondhand book store' way. Wilf and Freddie both reasonable nicknames, Willy less so...

Adore Wilfred. Is DS middle name and sometimes wish it was his first.

Also love Kit.

Don't like Diggory.

Kit is a fantastic name. The others are not to my taste. Congratulations on your newborn. Smile

Kit. By far!

Diggory or Digby are high up on my list for a second boy, sadly husband dislikes them both. We named our first Kester which is often floated here as a name to use to get the nn Kit.

Digger Barnes! I like Diggory! Not enough to use it myself but I wouldn't laugh at somebody else who used it. You can't have a David, a John and a Diggory though.

Wilfred is a bit blah in comparison, a version of William but not William. Wilbur, Wilfred

Kit is nice but only as a nn for Christopher. A Kit needs a fall back more than Diggory or Wilfred. I can imagine an adult male called Diggory or Wilfred. But what if Kit is 42 and nursing a lunchedsenseless belly? You just have to give him something stronger than 'kit' ten to fall back on.
