Unusual but too out there boys name?

My husband is a huge Inspector Morse fan and I love names that are creative, unique but have a classic feel to them, so nothing too boho or of the moment. We've come up with Endeavour Valentine... Slightly worried it'll be Dev for short which makes me think of that awful bloke in Corrie!

What do you think? Too bonkers for boy?!

Ha, it's all very early stages but it was Endeavour or Morse! I'd like something quirky but not too 'celeb' either...! This is not going to be easy!!

Not sure about Endeavour sorry. How about Earnest? ( I know the name generally doesn't have the a in it but I prefer this spelling)

Endeavour Valentine is awful. Sounds like a pedigree dog or possibly a boat.
Dexter is a good Morse-related name.

I think Endeavor is cool! It is a brave choice - maybe if you are not sure, use it as a middle name and let your boy choose later. I have a friend who was John then very unusual middle name... As soon a he was old enough, he swapped them permanently!

It is very out there. I think it's too out there. Endeavour is the name Of the ship James Cook sailed when he 'discovered' Australia. I think he would be given a bit of a hard time for it tbh...'Endeavour, will you Endeavour to do your homework on time?' No... It sounds silly.
Valentine on the other hand is the coolest name ever (as a middle name) Also Like Dexter.

I love Valentine but hubby thought it was a bit too feminine? It could be our girls name (I'll keep the middle one back so you don't think I'm truly bonkers!) but maybe we can do valentine endeavour for boy? X

Well, your baby, your choice. But I assume you're asking strangers on the Internet to find out what people will really think. Endeavour as a first name will, I guarantee, result in a lot of eye-rolling behind your back. It would be OK as a second name, but your son might have to explain the Morse connection more often than he might want to.
I do wonder if it might be just a little bit naff to be named after Inspector Morse, but that might just be my very strong feeling that there's nothing naffer than detective novels. I suppose it could be worse - you could be planning to call the poor little blighter Hercule or Jacques.

I love both names, but don't think they flow like that, Valentine Endeavour scans better to me.
Valentine is an unusual but very classic boys name and although virtue names aren't quite as popular as they once were, blandness is not our main aim as parents surely?
Dexter is yach. It's the name of the scruffy diner running alien in Star Wars ep2.
