What do people think of this name? we also like Zeph (short for Zephaniah) but worry that it's just a bit much and he will be embarrassed to say it! Any thoughts?

I absolutely love Seth, it's a got lovely solid feel to it - like Tom, Sam etc but not as over-used. Unfortunately DH doesn't like it, so doubt I'll get to use it in the future.

Sorry but it is the name I hate more than any other, ever. It sounds hissy and evil and unpleasant to me. But it's not my child!

thanks!

wow Remus that's quite a strong reaction! What boys names do you like?

Sorry, I class it as a "noise name" like josh, it's just a sound to me! Sorry,

I love it and it's my no1 name pick. DH has ruled it out because he doesn't like names with one syllable (his name is one syllable and he thinks it's too 'nothingy').

Afraid I agree it sounds hissy and evil, Set(h) being the evil uncle of Horus, killing his own brother etc. Similarly I am not keen on Saul.

MrsEricBana: that's Set though? The Egyptian God? This is Biblical Seth as in son of Adam and Eve. Or do they refer to the Egyptian one as Seth too?

Love love love it. If it wasn't a tongue twister alongside DD's name it would have been a serious contender for DS (who's actually Arthur, in case that's relevant)

I love it, although it's climbing in popularity, which would put me off.

Love Zeph!

Sorry, Sandwich. Do ignore me. I just really, really dislike it. I've never met one so it's based entirely on sound / the look on the page / connotations.

I suspect you'd hate the names I like. Favourite boys' names include: Laurence / Rowan / Bartholomew / Barnaby / Asher / Simon and Simeon / Bram / Edward / Edmund

Sorry but I agree with those that say hussy and evil - that's exactly what it makes me think! I also think it's a bit of a weedy name. I don't know any, so it's just based on gut reaction to the name.

I have only ever met two Seths ....
First was at college twenty plus yes ago.... He was cool, deep thinking and was so kind without being wussy?......second was the best man at wedding I was at five or so years ago - he was tall, incredibly sexy and very charming in a kind of think fab Daniel Craig crossed with Liam Neeson and pat cash ! Therefore I love that name !

I like it. V difficult to say if you have a lisp though. (Like me)
Remus - I had a girl, but your list has a couple that were on my short list if DD was a boy Grin

How about Heath as an alternative? Heard of one recently and it's a lovely name, also has a heroic northern grittiness to it!

Beamur - we found boys' names really easy to choose, and girls' names almost impossible. I had two girls!

Report
Beamur · 09/07/2013 22:43

We had 2 boys names on our list and lots of girls. If DD had been a boy she would have been Laurence or Barnaby. When I say your list had a couple of our names, a couple was the whole list!
