Is Grace an overly used/boring middle name?

First name choice for a girl is Eliza and think Grace flows nicely for a middle name but as the title suggests is it a bit boring and common? Any other nice middle name choices to go instead?

To me, Grace, Rose and May are filler names. Meaningless noise, just put there because you're supposed to have a middle name, and these one-syllable names are inoffensive, easy and go with pretty much everything.

They're all nice names, and yes, plenty of people do choose them for personal reasons, which is absolutely fine.

But plenty of people don't.

There are loads of other one-syllable names to choose from. And plenty of other names as well. Something like Simone or Celine flows on well from Eliza. Those names might not be to your taste, but think of the rhythm of the two names together - a two syllable name with the accent on the 2nd syllable sounds really nice with Eliza. :)

Normally yes, although Eliza Grace does have a good ring to it

I love the name, don't think it's boring, but what do I know, I am confused myself. Would never go for very unusual unique sounding names. A daughter of my neighbour is Grace, and she is so cute!

If you like it go with it.

Its not like anyone knows about middle names, or even has to use them unless it is for a form.

Grace is an absolutely beautiful name, with a special meaning. Nothing "filler" about it at all!!! Angry

I would say yes

Brutally honest, I find Grace a boring name.

Personally I'm not keen on grace, but Eliza grace does flow quite well.

Fuck off name haters, Grace is a beautiful name, timeless and elegant. No shame can be classed as boring, surely!? Blush

Yes Grace is boring and very overused.
VERRRRRRY.

Eliza and your surname will be fine.

Why do people still need middle names?!

Grace is a lovely name. Why waste it on a middle name?

I love the name Grace!
I'm sure it is meh for those who like 'unique' names, but I'm all for timeless classics Smile

I find it boring but my own name has become boringly common and I still love it. My DDs name is also boringly common but I still love it. But there would be many other lovely names that would go with Eliza too. Why not give her two middle names? Grace and another more unusual one? My DD has two.

Or how about
Eliza Beth ;)

Eliza and Grace are names I used to like, but just far too overused now, so I do find them quite boring. Sorry.

I usually wouldn't use Grace as it's so popular, but Eliza Grace does flow nicely. Other possibilities are:
Eliza Rosalind
Eliza Delphine
Eliza Gretchen
Eliza Hermione
Eliza Frances
Eliza Beatrice

Or some ideas from The Times/Telegraph (single middle names):
Eliza Dorothy
Eliza Mariquita
Eliza Clementine
Eliza Scarlett
Eliza Alice
Eliza Rose
Eliza Jane
Eliza Eve
Eliza Rose
Eliza Lucy
Eliza Mary
Eliza Honor
Eliza Iona
Eliza May
Eliza Patricia
Eliza Beatrice
Eliza Suzanne
Eliza Helena
Eliza Clementine
Eliza Mary
Eliza Charlotte
Eliza Rose
Eliza Cordelia
Eliza Alice
Eliza Jessica
Eliza Rosamund
Eliza Sarah
Eliza Ann
Eliza Bluebell
Eliza Lucy
Eliza Josephine
Eliza Hope

Double middle names:
Eliza Clementine Violet
Eliza Mary Hope
Eliza Josephine Frances
Eliza Rose Diana
Eliza Beatrice Rose
Eliza Florence Georgina
Eliza Mary Phoenix
Eliza April Nancy
Eliza Lily Rosemary
Eliza India Peta
Eliza Miranda Rosemary
Eliza Moira Hope
Eliza Clara May
Eliza Janet Mella
Eliza Isobel Sophie
Eliza Nancy Rose
Eliza Jane Hope
Eliza Louise Michelle
Eliza Alice Amy
Eliza Adele Dorothea
Eliza Amy May Victoria
Eliza Sandie Rose
Eliza Rose Henrietta
Eliza Victoria Rose
Eliza Charlotte Phoebe

Well that filled ten quiet minutes!

It's not an 'either / or' situation, PrincessKitKat - there's a vast swathe of middle ground. Believe me, I am a timeless, classic devotee, but I do think Grace - as a middle name - is somewhat tired and overused.

The OP did ask.

And 'fuck off name haters'...? Hmm Who woke the beast? Nobody's said they hate it; merely offered their opinion on having been asked.

I agree it's a filler name. I think the best middle names are family names. No-one other than you will ever really know or care what the middle name is so why not use it as an opportunity to honour a family member?

Weegiemum · 06/07/2013 02:11

It sounds nice.

However ...

I only know 2 couples who have used Grace as a middle name.

One because they'd been told they'd never have children, other after previous dc was stillborn. Both really using the meaning of Grace.

I think that's really better than because it "sounds nice" or "flows well".

So boring and so overused and so predictable.

If it was ten years ago Grace would not even enter your mind. It has just seeped into your subconscious as it's so common. Lots of other lovely one syllable girls' names to choose from.

I really like Grace but I do think it's over-used as a middle name at the moment.
When I was at both primary and high school I think all the girls in my classes had one of Elizabeth/Louise/Jane/Marie as middle names. Now Grace/May/Rose are those kind of names.

It's a popular, beautiful name. If you like it,use it. Depends how important popularity is to you. I think Eliza Grace sounds nice. Grace is the middle name of quite a few of my friends babies but who knows what your middle name is anyway. If it does concern you,are there any family names you could use?

Eliza Catherine?
Eliza Imogen?
Eliza Corinne?
Eliza Rose (still pretty popular mind you)
Eliza Sophia (ditto but less as a middle name)

And how nice is Paisley, giving you that whacking great list!

ha! my DD is 14 months and she is Elizabeth Grace!

I've no idea about over-use.
I chose that name combo when I was pg with DS1 12 years ago!

and through all my pgs it was always my first or second choice for a girl.
and when she was born last year I was very happy to use it!

btw we call her Lizababa - joint effort of DS3 and DS5Grin

very Shock at some comments.
to all the people being so rude - I wonder why you don't like the name Grace.
I hope it's not because it's a reminder of what you are falling short of....Hmm

Grace is now what Jane was in the 70s. I find it dull, overused and yes, a filler name.

Why not give your dd a more meaningful and more interesting name, perhaps one honouring a loved family member? Or a more rare name should she find her find her first name too widely used? Names are for identifying people and Grace doesn't do that too well anymore.
