Gaius. Yay or nay?

For a boy, pronounced Guy-us.

Classic Greek name and features heavily in the greatest TV show of all time - Battlestar Gallactica.

(had to name change as thus would totally out me IRL)

Sorry OP, I read it as Gay-us, which sadly could lead to name calling at a later stage.

Nay.

Isn't it a Latin/Roman name???

And no, wouldn't use it as he'd be teased no end.

Maybe if your baby is born 80 years old.

Caius could be the compromise we're after...

Not unless you want your child to be teased mercilessly.

I've just been watching a programme about the ancient Greeks, got momentarily confused.

Cassius is lovely Debs, can I ask what name you picked for DS1 to go with it?

Anything Roman (except perhaps Caligula) is fine by me. Just make sure middle name is not so ancient.

Sorry,not a fan.
Teasing potential.
If you like that sound,go for Guy or Gus.
Or a different name altogether if it's unusual that you want.

I think Merlin would be the popular association right now. But in a few years, that'll be forgotten. So unlikely to cause long term issues for the DC; rather it'll happen right now and so be noticed by you not DS.

IceNoSlice · 05/07/2013 21:48

Nay. Poor fella would be teased.

I'm surprised you are even fleetingly considering it tbh - the potential for name-calling is just there on a plate.

Why tho? its pronounced Guy-us not gay-us!

(my other choice was Galen pn Gay-len but even I can see sense on that one)

The 'Gai' part would be pronounced Gay by vast majority. No question. Sorry.

^^ This.

I would only know the correct pronunciation if I heard it, otherwise I thought it was Gay-us.
