Just found out I'm having a girl, I plan on using the name Niamh but when I was pregnant with my DS and people asked what name I would've used if he was a she and I told them 'Niamh' I was greeted with the usual "oh no" or the screwing up of faces which meant they thought it was crap Hmm.

It's a lovely name. Ignore them! Don't tell anyone what you're thinking! It's a nightmare - everyone has an opinion till the baby is here and they love it and the name xox

If you like it then go for it.

My friend got the same response when she said Niamh. She still named her Niamh.

Love the name Niamh. People always have an opinion. When I was pregnant with dc3 we had a boys name but didn't tell anyone cos I didn't want to hear whether anyone liked it or not. Even when dc3 was born and was a girl, we decided on a name and told everyone and my MIL or FIL (can't remember which) texted back, what about Katy? Er no, we just told you her name!! It's your baby, call her what name you like

It's lovely. And used often enough in mainland UK for only the wilfully rude to pretend they don't know how to say it.

I think it is a lovely name.

Also know someone (aged 6) with Neve as a middle name, whose parents were shocked when the birth congratulations cards spelled it Niamh!

IfUSeek almost as unreasonable as not understanding how to pronounce Siobhan. Both are pretty common these days and Niamh is lovely.

I love it! Was going to call dd Niamh, but it's very similar to my name. Great choice, especially with the correct spelling.

Beautiful name. I know a 4yo one and a 40yo old one and the 40yo would say be prepared for you and her to have to spell it to everyone so if you can live with that then go for it.

Gorgeous name, I love it! Ignore people giving you funny faces about it - some people will always have an opinion but there is nothing wrong with the name Niamh. It is lovely.
