Ruby or Mila?

I really like Ruby and its also a family name, my great grandmothers name, so I have always had it in mind. The popularity of it is a bit off putting but I like it too much to not use it for that reason.

Mila I have seen and I just think it looks and sounds really pretty, although not as strong as Ruby.

Which do you prefer? Is Ruby too popular now?

Both are pretty, I haven't come across a Ruby myself

Wasn't Ruby THE most popular girls' name a few years ago? I know quite a few. Personally I much prefer Mila, very elegant and beautiful - will you pronounce it Meela or Myla (to rhyme with Lila)?

Thanks Silver I dont actually know any Rubys either, but do know its popular, in the top ten.

Thanks otherside think I prefer the myla way of pronouncing it, dont know if meela sounds like a shortened amelia?

How would you assume it would be pronounced if you saw it?

I think Mila Ruby sounds nice together, I've always thought that Mila was pronouced like Millar?? But maybe I'm wrong!

Ruby- nice, I know one, surprised it's not used more often

Mila- dislike, think no-one will know how to pronounce it. Mile-ah? Mill-ah? In some countries the 'l' would be silent, so it might be pronounced 'Mia.' Also reminds me of the actress Milla Jojovich.

Mila would have pronounciation issues. I would say
mee-lah. If you like my-lah how about maya?

Ruby is nice and is popular but not hugely popular. I have only met a couple.

My sister is Ruby and has found in recent years its soared in popularity. Never used to happen but she keeps hearing it in supermarkets, parks, walking down the street plus has found one in most of her DC's classes. I've noticed it too.

I think Myla is a nice name, means its would always be pronounced how you like and on googling Myla comes up as a proper name with a few other people being called it.

Myla Ruby sounds good to my ears.

Prefer Mila. I'd go My-la.

What about Mire? Pronounced Meera?

It's Mee-la isn't it,as in Mila Kunis.

Mila, as others have said it is less common. My DDs love that there was rarely another girl with their name in their class.

Would it be shrot for anything? Millicent, Camilla, Amelia? I quite like it as it is tbh.

Yes go with the Myla spelling.

Mila still looks like mee-lah to me.

Both are very pretty. Ruby HAS been very popular, it's true. Accordinf to Top 100 name lists that is. I only know 2 in RL: one is 7, the other is 2. Still a lovely name though.

Mila, as others have said, is pronounced Mee-la. really pretty. I like Milla (Mill-uh) too. Myla I personally don't like the sound of (reminds me of Skylar) and the spelling looks too much like Myra. Which has obvious connotations.

Mila may well become more popular due to Mila Kunis. I'm sure there's a way to check the rising popularity of names online but I don't know how, I'm afraid. If popularity doesn't bother you then that doesn't matter.

Good luck!

Mila is Mee-la. If you want My-la, use Myla. I like both better than Ruby.

I'd go for Ruby, it is on the way down now. Was super popular about six years ago.

Mila is nice but it will be mispronounced constantly, could be Mill-a, Meela, Myla etc

I really like both names

I know a Mila pronounce Mee-la and think its a lovely unusual and very pretty name

I also know a teenage Ruby and think that is also a very pretty name
