Margaret Rose

I posted the Anais, Esme, Isobel thread, which has been really helpful. We also like Margaret Rose, but would probably shorten it. Potential shortenings are: Meggie (Meg not good with out surname), Margie (pn with a hard 'g'), Margo, Mari, Mattie or Rosie. We had a dog called Maggie so this is out. I appreciate Mari and Mattie are not common derivatives of Margaret, but they work and I like them .

Just had to jump on here and say that Margaret Rose is my mum's name, so I love it. She goes by Maggie mostly, but also Meg. Rose is so pretty.

I love it. I'm desperate for Margaret for any future DD2's. Meggie and Margo are great shortenings of the name. Margaret might sound a little old-fashioned but all the nn's are great, and I like giving a longer name so they can chose when they are older. Beautiful choice.

Can't go wrong with Margaret, IMO...so many lovely nicknames (don't get your heart set on one though...they tend to just 'happen').

Ah, this makes me think of the Family at One End Street with their daughter Margaret Rose (Peggy) "after the little princess and (her mother?) too". I haven't read it for years but it sticks in the memory!

As long as you're fine with her having the same name as the Queen's sister then yes it's nice.

My mum is called Margaret she gets called Margie. I love it. Also know a little Margaret who is 2 her nn is mollie..

It's a great name, so versatile and so many nicknames. My particlar favorites are gretta and margot but there are also some different ones you might not consider to derive from margaret like Pearl or Daisy.
It's a fantastic choice!!

Quite liking Molly Rose too.

My SIL is Margaret but gets called Daisy and in Latin countries "Margarida" gets called Guida.

Margaret is lovely very nearly called our dd that, see my post 'Margaret (nn maggie) can we?' but we just felt that there might be too many links to thatcher! Which would have been an issue with both sets of grandparent's, but if it hadn't been for that I would have definitely gone for it!

Although maggie is my favourite nn (but prob not ideal having a baby and a dog with the same name!) also really liked gretchen and daisy...

Margaret is a great name with many possible shortenings, you may find a name evolves naturally from it once she's here.

Never knew it was short for Margaret (always thought it was for Marian) but I've just been reading the book Marnie on which the Hitchcock film was based, and the main character's full name is given as Margaret.
