Weird naming daughters Mia and Amelia??

Hi There,

I have a little girl named Mia, and we love her name. I am pregnant with our second daughter and even before we found out we were having another girl I loved the name Amelia and always thought I'd name my daughter Amelia if I had another one. However, I have now found out that the name 'Mia' is often used as a nickname for 'Amelia'... Would it be weird if I have two daughters named Mia and Amelia? Will it be like giving them the same name? I really love both names. Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks :-D

I have an Amelia, and think it is too close to Mia, sorry.

I have a Claudia too if that helps Grin as it's along the same vein?

Or Celia, Cordelia, Sylvia, Lavinia, Olivia?

Hmmm, I think they are too similar.

How about Amelie? Similar to Amelia but different sounding and might work alongside Mia!

Good luck! I have two dds too, just lovely! Smile

Ah Breasticles, what good taste you have. One of my dds is a Claudia too

We do indeed Sleepy Grin

Could I ask what your other dd is called? I am on the look out for dc3. Like Josephine at the moment.

My eldest is Isabella but she's known as Izzie. We call Claudia Clo for short!

I liked Gabriella too (for dd1) by DH not so keen. Also liked Amelia (for dd2) but friends had just had an Amelia.

It's hard though isn't it!

Oh, meant to say I liked Josephine too. Was on my very long list.

Love COco, don't know why we never thought of that!

I know of a family who named their son Alex and their daughter Alice. Far too close for my liking.

Too similar! I love both names though.

I think they're a bit similar and I speak as someone who has 3 daughters whose names end in the same letter, don't worry I've already been told off by those that matter Smile

They are lovely names but I'm just not sure.

I know a family with a Mia and Emilia.

Until I read your thread it hadn't occurred to me that they are very similar but when I imagine the mum calling out one of their names I can imagine both girls responding.

Too similar. Sleppyfergus' suggestion of Amelie works a bit better.
Suggestions: Annabel/Annabelle, Julia/Juliet

Why would Mia be a nn for Amelia?

They're both very commonplace... Amelie's even more popular. Juliet's nice.

I thought Mia is a common nn for Amelia. Just is. Don't have to have a reason, does it?

I have an Amelia and her nn is Millie, it was going to be that or Mia. (as a nn)

Never thought of Mia as a nickname of Amelia. Good friend at school and cousin were both called Amelia and it was always Millie. Really like both
names.

Thanks for everyone's replies! I think I just have to face the fact that the two names are too similar :-(

However, I've now taken a liking to Abigail (Abi for short) but am struggling to find a middle name that goes well with it. Everything I try sounds very 'clumsy'... Any suggestions? :-)

BTW, I was thinking of using Millie as a nn for Amelia before.

Just want to say I love Abi. Can't help you with a middle name though.

Agree too close. Abigail is nice.

How about

Abigail Pearl
Abigail Joy
Abigail Fern
Abigail Jane
Abigail Iris
Abigail Hope

If you aren't bothered about being different then there are a couple of 'staples' that sound nice:
Abigail Grace
Abigail Rose

Or what about:
Abigail Jeanne
Abigail Zara (A to Z :D )
Abigail Aster
Abigail Eve
