How popular is Theo?

Compromising with my DH who doesn't like Theodore (or any of my other choices...).
Do you know many Theos? I'm worried it's too popular.
I'm in East Anglia.

I really liked it for DS but too much time on MN led me to believe there was one on every street corner so I didn't use it.

Three years on and I haven't encountered a single one. I vowed that with my next baby I would steer well clear of the baby names threads on here.

I am in east Anglia, I have a Theo(dore) and he is 13 and has always been the only one in his age group, at high school with yr groups of 250kids there was one other Theo in the whole school.

I know another aged about 8 and have heard of the odd one or two but not massively popular at all.

I haven't encountered any at all, will keep my ears peeled for newborns with that name. I get the impression it's less and less popular which is great!

My best friend lives in East Anglia and has a ten year old Theo. He's the only one I know.

I know one preschooler and have met one baby. So not particularly common I would say.

I know a few toddlers/ babies, but they are all still Theodore, not shortened to theo

Btw deja if you go for theo/theodore you get to call them theodorable Grin which my 13 yr old doesnt like so much anymore :( but its a fab nickname. Theodore has lots of shortenings and gives flexibility when they are older ie theo or ted etc.

Hey DejaB00 just about to reply to your last thread, when I saw this!

My Theo(dore) is 2 and I've not met another one the same age.

Only a couple of times have we met another Theo - by coincidence there was one on the train today (he was about 10), but it's a rare thing.

I do worry that it is getting more and more popular, but only met the odd few and I go to a lot of groups. I still love the name and my DS loves his name too.

I love it so didn't use it in 2009 and 2011 when had children but i know probably hundreds of children and I've only ever met 1 Theo Wink

I loved Theo/Theodore when I was pregnant with my son 18 years ago, but it could never compete with the name we actually gave him. Sometimes I wish we picked Theo as his name is now one of the most common names in the country!

OP it is a Theoadorable name. Good one 5madthings. I still call my kids Boo Boo & Baba which is a funny thing to do when they've friends over

5madthings I am not normally a fan of cutesy nicknames but that is actually adorable...

OP I LOVE Theo (and Theodore) but I can't seem to convince my husband, I've never met one, but he apparently knew one who was the an of some slightly weird friends of his parents, who he literally met once, and has take against it for this reason. Gaaaaah! If he was an axe-murderer I could see the logic but I think he's just some innocent hippyish teenager.

Anyhoodle, I haven't given up with it and am not worried that it's too popular. FWIW, I also like Roan (Rowan?), Nathaniel, Edwin and Barnaby (the latter is husband's favourite but my parents had a beloved but dopey dog called Barney and I can't get my head around it).

Having said all the above, we don't live in a particularly middle-class/cool and artsy name area, and I can imagine it's much more popular in Oxfordshire or Wandsworth....

It's on our list. We are in north essex. I only know one other who is about 10 I think.

The amount if times I have seen it on mumsnet has put me off a little though.

I know two Theos, both aged four. I don't think it is that popular in the real world (rather than on Mumsnet!) and I think it is lovely. It was on my shortlist for DS2.

I have one; he's 6. There is one more at primary school, but older, and a couple more at the local secondary. We live in East Anglia. We also have a friends with a Theo but that's because great minds think alike! I love the fact that it's short, but still a 'grown-up' name. I don't really like Theodore, which is too much for me.

Be warned, though - in my experience all Theos are hugely spirited and rather naughty!!
