Clara Emmeline?

Do these names go together as a first and middle name?

Can't have Emmeline first as DD1's name begins with 'E'.

Not sure. I love Clara but Emmeline sounds made up? I think they are both nice names but too fancy/ ott together.

Love Emmalene (prefer it spelled this way). Definitely not made up. Why can't you have another DD's name starting with E, just out of interest?

Emmeline Pankhurst not ring a bell?

I think it's beautiful. Sound fab together.

Emmeline is after Emmeline Pankhurst (so not made up) - we're following on a tradition from DH's family of picking middle names from the names of inspirational people.

DD1's middle name is Rosalind (Rosalind Franklin).

We don't want post arriving to the house addressed to Miss E. Caractacus and not know which DD it is intended for. Hence the desire for different first initials.

I love both names, I'm just worried that they don't 'flow' well together.

Out of interest- how will you pronounce Clara? Like the 'a' from apple? Or the 'a' from above?

I think they're lovely together. I prefer the pronunciation of Clarr-ra to Clair-ra, FWIW.

Chatty - the 'a' in both 'apple' an 'above' sound the same to me Confused

To me the different pronunciation of Clara would be 'claarra' or 'claira'.
I prefer claara.

Clara Emmeline is a wonderful name. Grin

Hehe... Ok. I say 'uh'bove as opposed to 'ah'bove or 'ay'bove.
So Clara like 'Lara Croft'

I really really like both names but my only word of caution is that as one ends in a vowel and the other starts in a vowel then can tend to run into each other. When this happens people either tend to sort of add in an extra R sound between the names or have to make a deliberate pause in their speech to prevent it from happening.

This might not bother you but I have this problem with my dd's names and it does irritate me a little.

Both lovely names but agree with Ikea about the vowels running together.

I don't think they flow. It's the vowel vowel thing.

Report
NotTreadingGrapes · 28/04/2013 11:18

They vowels would only run on if they were both "a" (like Clara Amanda)

This is the most lovely name combination I've seen on here for a long time and I insist you use it!! Grin
