Dh doesn't like it. And, it is way out from all the girls names I usually like....but I just can't get it out of my head. Think It's classically (sp?) beautiful.

(Not even pg yet btw...just musing!)

Very beautiful, and would be lovely shortened too.

I think it is a bit unisex.

Merryn is pretty, yes.

I really don't like the name edith ...so I don't like that it's in there.

Family would shorten it so it's good that it has a nice short version...

Lovely name but reminds me if Meredith Kercher...

Male name in Wales, I believe, if that affects your thoughts!

I hate it more than I hate any other name in the world. Sorry.

I have a Meredith- nn Merry. When we told people at 1st- we got some very luke warm responses- now she is 6- she really suits her name and we have only met one other. It is different, without being too weird plus people can pronounce it as well :)

I don't like it - can't pinpoint why. Neither the sound nor the way it looks written down.

I adore Merryn though, have always thought that was a lovely name.

Reminded me of the sad news stories also. Right away.

I really like Edith though - I have totally come round to this name. My old neighbour has a beautiful little brunette toddler called Edith and that has completely changed my opinion of it.

Edie is a sweet nickname, too.

Not keen, I've encountered it almost exclusively as a surname, and I dislike surnames as names for girls.

Don't care for Merry as a nn either, sounds like a euphemism for pissed!

I like Judith though.

Love it - it's one of my faves! Don't like any shortened versions though.

When ever I see the name Meredith I instantly think of Meredith Brooks and start singing her "I'm a bitch..." Song in my head...Sorry! Aside from that,I can't say I'm keen on the name...its not girly enough for my liking but that's just me and my personal tastes in girls names!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 23/04/2013 00:23

I like it, for girls and boys Grin

I've never come across one shortened though, the only Meri I know is a Meriel.

I've never heard of it as a male name or as a surname... Ever. If I did, in real life, that alone would succeed in putting me off. Traditionally, I've always favoured girlie names .. Especially those ending in ie /y or a. So Meredith is a big deviation!

What I want is a name that is not too unusual/ made up but that is not well used....and is beautiful... ! I thought Meredith fitted that. Sounds like it depends greatly on what part of the UK you live in...

Never heard of it as a surname either, it's a traditional well established first name I would be surprised if many people thought it was a surname being used as a first name.

I love Judith/Judy too. I wish I had been brave enough to use it.

We really like it and it's top of our list for new baby.

But every other name we have chosen for our kids has immediately become more popular, and I have heard quite a few people mention it, on here and in RL, so I wouldn't place any bets on it being particularly unique!
