Baby names

Need some serious help...or a slap.

Okay, so we've got 7 weeks to due date for our baby boy and we haven't got a firm handle on any names. Not even potential names! The problem is, I'll suggest a name and then start to go off it. It's really winding me up.

We haven't been able to find any name that really grabs us, it's more of a 'yeah, that's might be nice' response. From both of us too, it's not as if one of us is being really fussy. Maybe we're just weird. Hmm

So far these are the names we have thought about:

Caleb - DP isn't keen
Toby - I'm not keen
Samuel - DP not keen
Elijah - we both like but is a relatively new one so may start to go off it soon Angry
Jonah - DP likes but I don't

It's driving me mental. Any suggestions? From the list or new ones? His middle name is going to be Alex and his last name Farrell.

How about ...
Tobias (nn Toby for DH)
Elias (nn Eli)

Try not to worry too much. Hopefully you will have a list drawn up and when you see him one will just feel 'right'.

All those names are Biblical, so if they're not pressing the right button how about looking elsewhere? You could try just browsing internet sites for ideas - and I don't mean "baby name" sites. Try looking at cast lists on IMDB for instance - completely random assortments of names, whether of actors or characters.

Hags Shock I totally didn't realise all the names are biblical! We aren't particularly religious either... Confused Thanks for the IMDB tip.

Doctrine Clargo and Peanut We vetoed each of those early on but thank you :)

We'll probably end up doing what Clargo suggested, just have a list and pick when we see him.

I like all the names you listed OP, especially Jonah. How about:

Reuben
Isaac
Jacob
Lorcan

Good luck! I found the whole name business quite stressful especially as DH was a total PITA about it all!

Is it just me that actually likes Alex Farrell as the actual name rather than the middle name? I think that sounds great.

Alex Elijah Farrell - there you go, job done! Next..........

Ah - that'll be why it has a nice ring to it :) Well done your DP's parents!

we had a couple of possibles for No1 son but didn't like any of them when he was born - we picked something a few days later. For No2 son, we didn't bother beforehand and he was nameless for a week and half. I wouldn't worry too much, you'll think of something.

I like the sound of Gregor Alex or James Alex. or how about Peter Alex?

I wouldn't stress too much about only having 7 weeks to go, that's heaps of time - me & my OH didn't find out our baby's sex prior to the birth & altho we were pretty decided on girls names we were totally still looking up boys names in the delivery room!! Thankfully for our poor decision-making skills it turned out to be a girl, but some of our choices were Barnabus/Barney, Sebastian, Zachary... cant remember any more, I was a tad distracted by that point! :) If it helps, one of my main concerns was what it would be shortened to as everyone almost always abbreviates...but did you know you have up to 6 weeks after the birth to register the name?? So really you have 13 weeks to decide! Plus apparently its also super-easy to change the name at any point all the way up until the wee one is a year old...not good for the indecisive but handy to know if you decide on something majorly off the wall..! :) good luck!!

Not a name beginning with N or he will be "NAF" which isn't a particularly positive word... or a nae beginning with F for that matter :p

Leighton? Liam? Everyone likes a "LAF" lol.

Don't worry too much - during my contractions DH kept trying to get me to decide on names...not happening obviously. When I'd gathered myself together after birth / stitches etc, realised DD looked exactly like a name that didn't even make our short list. Babies have their own way sometimes.

How about Adam Farrell if you like Alex Farrell? Otherwise Nathan, James, Daniel - oh they've already been suggested - great minds.....Grin

I keep telling people we are going to decide when he's born and let everyone know then.

Mainly because I don't want people to tell me their opinions on any name we decide. I don't need to be put off anymore than I am already!
