In a funny sort of way i llike it. Like Derek Jacobi? But no-one would ever pronounce it correctly, like cockyfox said- it'd drive you potty eventually

I'd think Derek Jacobi too.

How about Giacomo (pronounced Jack-a-mo) - is it similar enough?

Like it. It's OBVIOUSLY jah ko bee.

Ignore the haterz.

Pronunciation is so important with names, my little girl is IsObel drives me to distraction when people call her IsAbel, ypu think you'll only have to correct people once but it isn't it is constant.

I really can't believe people would struggle to pronounce jacoby

cheekbyjowl · 06/04/2013 22:22

Go for it. I think it has a nice sound to it

Not a fan. But then I don't like the name Jacob either.

I actually can't hear any difference between Isobel and Isabel. I have never heard anyone pronounce either version in any other way than Iz-uh-bel. (The middle bit being the sound usually represented by an upside-down e)

As for Jacoby, I would say it like the first three syllables of Jacobean. I do see it as a surname though.

I like it but be prepared for haters and mis pronouncers.

Rhubarbgarden · 07/04/2013 07:48

I've heard worse. But it wouldn't be my choice.

Proper old name, the original way James was rendered in the Bible but I think you will get a lot of mispronunciations

Isobel, Isabel, Isabelle - all the same to me Hmm

Report
Ham69 · 07/04/2013 21:41

I've just been saying Isobel, Isabelle over and over agin to myself and I just can't hear the difference!
Not too keen on Jacoby though definitely heard worse.

Why?

Report
WildThong · 07/04/2013 21:47

Not for me. Bit pretentious, sorry. And the child will spend the rest of his life spelling it out and correcting people who assume it's Jacob.

I like it a lot. It's an older version of Jacob.

It's the name of actress Coby Smulders. Obviously she shortens it. I understand its a girls name.

Report
KittenOfDoom · 08/04/2013 12:13

No, her name is Jacoba. It's the Dutch equivalent of Jacqueline et al.
