Baby names

Can I name DC3 DC2's middle name??!

So we're having a third baby, still early days but thinking of names whilst its still fun! The only girls name I really love and goes well with the other names is DC2's middle name. I know this is a bit weird but is it passable or really bad?
Thanks!

I think it's a bit odd, sorry.

Nah, I don't really see the problem. Who uses middle names anyway?

whyy not.
itsaves on name tags too, just fold over the first name.

I'd choose a new name, and have all my kids names be unique and special.

I don't think I would

Very odd. I wouldn't

I did.

Then we added in an extra middle name for both DC when they were 2 and 5 to try to make it less of an issue. Not that it has ever been but just in case they get snippy about sharing a name when older. Grin

They're 8 and 5 now and don't think it's odd.

No. Choose another name, kids are quite sensitive to things like this. If both had the same middle name then fine, my dh & bil have my pils first name astheir middle name. It would look odd and not very creative to do what you are suggesting.

Well it's strange, but I don't see why not. 99% of the people who meet either of them will have no idea anyway, and the other 1% will get over it. No-one actually needs to use their middle name so I don't see what difference it makes really.

I know a few people that have done this. My mother in law for one Smile Her dc1 middle name is dc3 first name. It has never caused any bother at all.

My name is the same asmy older sisters middle name. doesnt bother me in the slightest.

I asked a similar question a few weeks ago about using DD1s middle name for potential DD2s first and most responses put me off. Haven't thought of anything else instead though...

Just do it. It's fine!

Nothing weird about it at all. Not sure why people think there is!
Middle names only get used when filling out forms and when kids at secondary school try to find out who has the most humourous middle name. Assuming the name you're thinking of isn't an embarrassing name then there's no issue.

Middle names aren't stand-alone anyway.

Only a first born or only child would ask that question

And there are so many lovely names to choose from, it would show a staggering lack of imagination IMHO

It has a meaning to me and is a beautiful name, I have lot of imagination jut nothing means as much to me and that's what put me off having a name I don't love. Still looking round though!

Not a first or only only child either! I actually forgot my older sisters middle name for a minute then as well.

of course you can.Personally I wouldn't for the reasons already given.

The only time you use your middle name a lot is when you are about 8/10 and do all sorts of experiments with spelling it backwards, practising signatures and stuff like that. Just the time when you're likely to be upset about discovering that your name is the same as your sister's.

Report
UniqueAndAmazing · 28/03/2013 15:33

if you know that yours is the same as your sister's because your mum and dad loved it so much they thought it was unfair to only give it to one child, it would be okay.

but then, you'd have to make sure that if DC1 is a girl too, you don't upset her....

Can't believe all the negative responses here! I can't see anything wrong with it at all (I'm not an only child or a PFB and I have 3 DCs of my own). I like Unique's spin on it!

I suppose as a 2nd DD she will get used to having hand-me-downs, so the name will be just one in a long line of things she'll get after her sister has already had it for a while, but no-one really uses middle names so it won't be an issue for anyone but you.

It would be worse to use DD1's first name as a middle name than vice versa IMHO.

I think each child deserves a name of their own...no hand me downs!

no

id be quite offended if it was me. it wasnt a good enough name for DC2 to have as their first name, but good enough for me...

as someone else said, they'll probably get enough hand me downs through their life - why add to that!

simplesusan · 30/03/2013 17:27

I don't see any problem with it.

There are so many names in the world surely you can think of a new individual name?
