For the first time it's just me that has to pick this name, although I will take my other children's opinions into consideration and it's sort of weird having no one to Veto any of my names! I have 3 children already, 2 girls and 1 boy, 2 of them have unusual ish names but not at all unknown, the other name is in the top 50 I think.

Just found out yesterday that it's a girl and this is my first list -

Evie/Evelyn (I wanted this for my last little girl but ex H didn't like it)
Mia (I do really like this but it was the name ex H and I chose before he left and he now doesn't want to have anything to do with the baby so...)
Audra
Savannah
Winter (if I did guilty pleasures this would be it, my only problem with this name is baby will be born in July)

Other names my children have suggested, I think there's a theme here! -

Esmé
Rose
Isabelle
Taylor

I like Evie and Rose best of these suggestions (though prefer Eva and Rosa).

I don't like Winter, even for a winter baby, sorry, and certainly not for a July birthday! Not keen on Summer as a name but know a few, but have never met a Winter. What is it about the name you particularly like, is it the sound, the two syllables, that it's a 'nature' name? maybe we can suggest alternatives with a similar feel?

Evie/Evelyn - I'm not keen. Do really like Eva though
Mia - nice enough. Can see why you'd want to avoid though
Audra - don't like this, too much like Audrey which I really dislike
Savannah - I have one. Love it.
Winter - lovely but not for a July baby
Esmé - Really like it
Rose - a bit bland
Isabelle - love it
Taylor - really like it

Isabelle Savannah has a nice ring to it. Or Savannah Rose/Isabelle Rose/Taylor Rose

I like Evelyn (better to give her the full name so she can use it if she prefers), Rose or Isabelle (If DS1 had turned out to be DD1, he would be Isobel)

I like Savannah best from your list.Winter for a July baby ,no (but you know that anyway)!

Aubrey
Autumn
Isla
Matilda
Brooke
Annabelle
Delphine
Estelle

Sorry your ex is being a knob but so nice to not have any names vetoed! Good luck. :-)

Sorry to hear your ExH is being a twat :(

How lovely to know you have a little DD on the way - how much longer do you have to wait to meet her?

Evie/Evelyn (I wanted this for my last little girl but ex H didn't like it)

Savannah and Winter are both lovely

I am sorry to say it but I don't like any of them Blush
The first few feel massively over-used and the last few sound overly-consciously precious // trying to be different.

I'd go for Evelyn - you've loved it for years and now exH is out of the way you deserve to go with your heart!

TheGirlOnTheLanding I'm not keen on any of the other season names and I have no idea what it is about the name Winter that I like.

FriggFRIGG I do really like the name Audrey, but for reasons it would take too long to go into, I can't use it. Unfortunately none of the names you listed are jumping out at me.

manicinsomniac What kind of reaction do you get from other people with Savannah? I'm not usually one to care about these things but thought I'd ask!

ChippingInIsEggceptional Ex is a big twat, trying for baby no.4 was his idea! But we're better off without, his antics since he left have been nothing short of disgusting. We still have 4 months to go, so plenty of time as yet. You're definitely right about the name Mia, tis a shame though.

raisah My surname is quite, I'm not sure how to say this but maybe 'posh' sounding, I think it would help a lot of names with the high court judge test!

Thanks thank you to everyone that has replied.

I have an awfully large family and quite a few friends and there is an unwritten rule that no name can be used more than once, luckily there's only one name that I've had to cross off because of this though.

I like Evelyn. It's not a name I see as being over used.

Rose, Esme and Isabelle are all fine (tricky with the accent for Esme and Isabelle has several spellings/is very popular)

Not overly keen on Savannah or Audra

I don't like Mia or Taylor

All opinions simply personal taste - no real reason.

Only one I really hate is Taylor.

I don't particularly like any of your list, but Evelyn is okay. My favourite from your children's list is Rose.

How about:

Maia/Maya instead of Mia
Aurora instead of Audra
Serena or Susannah instead of Savannah
Thalia/Talia instead of Taylor (these are different names, the first Greek, the second Hebrew)

Evie - Eve, Eva and Evelyn are lovely, but Evie is far too popular in our area
Mia - Again too popular
Audra - Ok I suppose and I think it would grow on me
Savannah - No, sorry I really don't like it
Winter - No, no no!

Other names my children have suggested, I think there's a theme here! -

Esmé - It gets pronounced Es-Mi round here and sounds awful, one of my friends changed her daughters name on registration day when an elderly lady said the name to her.
Rose - Or Rosa are very nice indeed.
Isabelle - Lovely and quite popular, but I still like it
Taylor - Again - No!

I like Winter but not for a July baby! If you're into seasonal type names then how about Summer? Mind you, judging by the weather today, at this rate we probable will have snow in July so maybe Winter's not such an unlikely name for your DD! Grin

WormCanner · 23/03/2013 13:06

Evelyn seems to be getting very popular. The Eve, Eva, Evie names have become very overdone, so I think people are turning to Evelyn as the next attempt to be "different".

Of your names OP I like Evelyn and Audra best.

If your July due date DD2 ends up living in Australia, Winter wouldn't be a problem would it?! Perhaps better to sidestep that one or use it as a second name?

I've seen Juno suggested on a few threads here but don't know any in rl yet.

Why not add Kristen to the DC's list...? Smile

May, Mae, Freya

Don't go for Taylor it will date badly once Taylor Swift has gone - think KylieGrin
Always say this - make sure it goes with your surname eg not Chris Cross etc and remember they'll be an oldie someday.
