So after thinking I was settled on a name I now have been tempted by Pearl. What do you think? Do you know any (under the age of 70)...... If so, do they like being called Pearl? I think it would be nice on a little girl!

How does it go with your surname? Please tell me it's not Gates.

My dd's name isn't Pearl (it's Lucy) but it's what she has been called since her earliest days by everyone who knows her and it's what she answers to and calls herself. I love the name and dd was called it initially because she is small and precious. She's 10 now and have never had any bad reactions to Pearl as a name.

I love it. There's a stunning medieval poem called Pearl written from the point of view of a father about his daughter.

I'm afraid I immediately thought of pearl necklace... Which would be awful for her in her teen years.

Agree with determined. In a Scottish accent it sounds dire. Peril.

I have a 7 year old Pearl, and I love it.
She wishes she was called Shirley!

I like it but if you are nervous you could use Margaret (or a form of it - Margot) and use Pearl as a nickname.
