For a boy? Is it too soft sounding? Dh says he will be teased (but offers no suggestions).

The first thing that came to my mind was a shade of the colour green.

A story about Robin Hoods men wearing linden green from when I was little.

I've never heard it used as a name before but there is nothing wrong with it and I can't see why a DC would be teased.

I know a few Lindseys (boys). Quite traditional name and not one for teasing!

I know a Linden! But... She's a girl. It is quite a girly name to me, she's Lindy as a nn.

Boy in my class was called Linden. When he was about 15 his parents allowed him to change it to his middle name which was something like Andrew if I remember rightly.

It sounds nice, but I do think it sounds feminine.

I know a Linden and Linton, both adult men. Love the name Linden. Also seen it spelt Lyndon after President Lyndon Johnson. Might get called London at school but there's worse things you could be teased with.

V sorry but I think it sounds a bit geeky as a first name. Reminds me of Sheldon reference in when Harry met Sally. For some reason though I really like it as a middle name.

I have one but spelt Lyndon. Never heard a bad comment, everyone says how nice it is. Never met one before having him then met two grown up ones the week he was born. Both had never had any negative comments about there name,nd loved it.
Never had anyone tried spelling or saying it as London either.
It was a last minute choice of name and so glad we went for it.

I know a middle aged man called Lindon. When I first met him I thought he had a great name, I love it.

I can't see anything teaseworthy about Linden but to me it is the German plural of Linde (lime tree): eine Linde, zwei Linden.

How about these with a similar feel:
Tristan
Reuben
Quentin
Adrian

I love it, but dh vetoed for similar reasons.

He woudl have been fractionally happier with Lyndon, but I don't like that spelling - Linden seems clean, simple and fresh to me.

I haven't ever come across a female Linden, so it doesn't sound girly to me.

Dh once had a friend named linden and always thought is was a great name. Sadly he passed away but the few times I have heard it since then I always think of it as a lovely strong male name.

I know a lovely Linden but she is a (very beautiful and nice) woman! Can't imagine it on a boy, but that may be because I know a woman with the name!

sounds like a name of a house in a 1980's cul de sac

Hmm. Well not a terrible response from mnetters which is good. I've had a good response in our "adopted" country so wanted some uk input to check we are not living in crazytown.

I knew an attractive rugby player called Lyndon (not sure of the spelling), so not girly in my mind!

I loved this name but my dh would not have it for similar reasons as yours.

Wasn't there a doctor in holby city called linden!?!

Robin Hood and his men wore lincoln green, not linden green.

Report
tinyshinyanddon · 07/03/2013 04:03

Yes Fran I figured that was a muddle up of Lincoln (which was suggested to me as a possibility but it's just too presidential for me. Linden/Lyndon I can handle

Lyndon is quite popular in Wales, so what with that and LBJ it won't raise any eyebrows. Linden otoh looks effeminate on the page.

So although it shouldn't matter since they sound the same, I would choose Lyndon for a boy.
