Baby girl shortlist

Hello

Im being very indecisive with names for our first baby girl, due shortly!, so thought I'd expose myself to the mumsnet jury :)

Grateful for any comments on any of the below. In particular we've started trying to put some together with middle name and surname and I've still got over 10!. I've put a ? where we don't know what middle name.

Some context:1. I have a common first name and was usually one of a few in the class and would like to reduce chances of that for our DG so we don't want anything top 30. But I have an unusual/quirky/hippy middle name which I love. 2. I am Cornish and like Celtic names but it's not a must have. 3. DH hates what he thinks of as Waitrose names (despite the fact we shop there!). 4. Our surname is 2 syllable beginning with B, think 'Babcock'

Ok:

  1. Orla Loveday Babcock (DH thinks Loveday may = pornstar)
  2. Lowenna Maeve Babcock (DH wonders if people would mispronounce and what nn people would use- I think we could use Lola if we really wanted a nn)
  3. Indigo Rose Babcock (I love the way Indigo sounds to say and Indy as a nn but think mumsnetters will dislike)
  4. Thea Madison Babcock(Madison has special memory but we don't like as 1st name). May use Theadora for birth cert so she can go long or short
  5. Verity ? Babcock (I love verity but a posh friend told me it is now becoming chivvy). DH quite likes
  6. Ivy Tallulah Babcock/Ivy Rosella Babcock (Ivy is DHs fav)
  7. Genevieve (nn Vivi) ? Babcock (my fav). What middle name?
  8. Alice ? Babcock (Alice is a family name and we both like so could be a middle name)
  9. Mariella ? Babcock

10. Imogen ? Babcock
11. Lorna ? Babcock
12. Kitty Rose Babcock (we both like Kitty but not Catherine or anything it's short for and worry it might not suit as an adult, although I like Kit)

We're all over the place as you can see. He's ruled out tons of others I like (Gabriella, Aurelia, Harriet).

Thanks for any words of wisdom :)

What about your middle name?

Out of your list I prefer Imogen (Immy) or Kitty - though not wildly keen on either. I quite like Vivi as a shortened name but would think of something other than Genevieve or Vivienne as the 'long name'.

Ok, I particularly like Thea(dora) and Genevieive.

Loveday is a good Cornish name and there's nothing porny about it.

Don't really dislike any, though Indigo not my fave and not sure how to pronounce Lowenna other than how it's written.

Oh and don't much like Ivy, it is so old ladyish and not nice old ladies.

Love Tallulah as a mn though.

Thanks all. So exciting to talk names! DH has had enough until she is here and he can meet her. Lowenna (low-wenna) is Cornish for joyful!

Tallulah Rose , or how about India Rose.

Are you planning on having any more children?

I ask because my ex-wife loved American Indians, so we named are children after Indian tribes, Savannah (yes it is an Indian tribe) and Cheyenne (as proper spelling). I always joked that if we had a third girl I would name her Souix (Sue)

Floralnomad I had Tallulah Rose but was too worried about Tallulah as a 1st name as a lot of people seem to have negative connotations (showgirl/stripper). I do like India, but I like Indigo more!

Savichey great names. I had a Native American friend Cheyenne in the past (lived in US for 7 years) and loved her name. I would rather link to my Celtic heritage I think though. Not sure about more kids after experiencing pregnancy but hopefully!

Oh I didn't know about Lowenna, I really thought it was Loh-wenna, how do you say it? Or are you referring to Maeve?

Don't hate me: Orla Loveday - love both names but being a crossword/anagram fan, I at once think of Oral Loveday, sorry.

Love Kitty. I was keen on Imogen for our DD. Mariella makes a lovely change. Thea has been mentioned a lot in this Topic the past few months. Alice is sweet. Rose is a very popular middle name, but no reason you should avoid it.

Of your selection I'd probably go for Orla, Kitty, best Mariella and Loveday as a second name.

So slow tapping this out, just read your explanation of Lowenna, thanks.

Does your surname actually have 'cock' in it? I really like Loveday as a middle name but I wouldn't use it if it does.

I like the following:

Thea
Alice
Ivy
Orla
Mariella

These are all lovely and I don't think any of them are particularly popular. Of them, I like Alice and Thea best as I like short and simple names.

Genevieve Alice Babcock

Narked Surname does not actually have 'cock' in it. The extended pelvic rest -I have placenta previa- is clearly getting to me what with Oral (!) Loveday and Cock (slight hysterical laughter).

I love Loveday and think its the perfect MN. I would have Alice Loveday Babcock.

Can I also suggest Beatrix?

You are a good sport LowennaGirl they really are great names and I am sure you'll find what you fancy best before DD arrives.

Narked · 15/02/2013 12:50

Then I'd definitely use Loveday as a middle name. It's lovely and meets your cornish name thing.
