Me and my DP love the name Georgia, but his name is George! Ive asked friends for opinions and many say it doesn't matter and would be nice, but think theyre just being polite. An outsiders view would be great! Smile

I don't think they're just being nice, I think it's a lovely name regardless. But then we were going to name a daughter Edie - and my husbands name is Ed. We didn't choose it because of the connection, but because we liked the name. Never occurred to us that it might be odd, either. But we had a boy...

oh did you get told you was having a girl then? ive been paranoid that the sonographer got the sex wrong...dont know why!

Thankyou though, sometimes its hard to see it from what other people might think.

i don;t think it;s wierd at all, go for it
...but if you have a boy next don;t call him George....then it would start getting a bit odd (smile)

We have a 5 yr old Georgia and she is usually called Georg as a nickname. Im not sure if this would work but a lot of people call their kids after themselves so it depends on if you could get used to maybe having 2 george's in the house . Its a beautiful name tho and not as popular as a lot of names. We don't know of many !

No I just meant if it was a girl we would have used that name. But I know what you mean, in the back of my mind I always thought there was a good chance that the sonographer could have made a mistake!

I wouldn't do it.
I wouldn't like to have felt like I was named after either of my parents, is all I can think. And I get on with them fine!

Isn't there anything else you like?

I like it.
And my dad is my hero, if my name was linked to his I think I'd be ok with it. (Although my dad is called Stuart so in my case it would be shit, in your case I think it's lovely)

The others are all very popular right now, so I would go for Georgia.

I actually think it's a lovely name and plenty of people name their DCs after themselves or other close relatives, so I don't see a problem with that!

I love Eva/Evie.

It's not silly, but it is down to personal taste. I think I wouldn't, but only because there are so many lovely names and I like the idea of a family "set" that works IYSWIM. Also you'd have a shouting-name-up-the-stairs problem. Unless you usually call your DP something different?

I called my youngest son the male version of my own name, I really don't see what the problem is :o

I have a Georgia who is named after her great grandad and her Grandad. Doesn't have to get shortened to George, ours is more a Gigi. Must admit I don't like it now though, have gone right off it but 7 years later too late to change Blush

raisah · 15/02/2013 05:55

You could choose Georgina and shorten it to Gina.

In Italy its spelt Giorgia if you want it to be a bit different.

Think it's a lovely name (totally biased as I have a little Georgia)
drivinmecrazy am intrigued do you know why you have gone off the name? Too popular or something else?

It was hearing a REALLY chav Mum screeching the name at the top of her voice in the middle of the supermarket and seeing this snotty, dirty child appear and tell her Mum to F**k off!!!

Haha drivinmecrazy that was very unfortunate, your girl still has a lovely name and not at all chavvy!

Thanks all for your opinions, Georgia certainly isnt off the cards xx
