New Shortlist (girls), what do you think of these?

2 syllable surname beginning with B rhymes with Mallard! DC1 currently brewing, we are struggling to agree in any we both love sadly, so the Shortlist of ones we both quite like is as follows:

Lyra Penelope
Lyra Madeleine
Edith Penelope
Penelope Rose
Madeleine Rose
Delilah Rose
Madeleine Nieve
Rose Penelope

(Can play around with middle names and order more!) and possibly the German spelling and pron of Madelein/Madeline as we aren't frenchy people at all. Strong connections with Spain hence Nieve (Spanish for snow)... We don't want anything toooooo cutesy and I like unusual names but DH hates them!

Boys name was so much easier! We both completely adore one name, girls.......

I like Edith the most but not keen on Penelope. I think I'd go for Edith Rose.

I love joining in with these threads as I never got to name my children as they are adopted ( although I did give my DD a sneaky extra middle name! )

Ah angels thanks for your help! Sneaky middle name very lovely idea and not sneaky at all! Penelope is DH favourite and I quite like it as I think lady penelope is awesome and also in the odyssey she's nice! My favourite is Edith but a bit put off by downton abbey! Association does so much to names doesn't it?!

Yes it's funny as for me Penelope means Penelope Pitstop!

I did think of Downton when I saw Edith actually but I also thought of Edith Bowman who I think is quite cool. ( also I love Edith in Downton!)

Edith to me sounds classy and timeless.

I'd go for Edith from your list and would add Eleanor.

Edith for me. Never saw Downton and not keen on Penelope as we had one at school anf they called her penny-lope.

Edith Rose.

I haven't suggested anyone use Clemency lately.

Clemency Rose Lastname. Lovely.

Am liking Edith's popularity here! DH thinks its too 'out there!' But willing to consider it unlike others I've liked. It's his third favourite.

So... Edith Penelope, Edith Rose, Edith Madelein....?!

Clemency is quite pretty seeker but not sure about the meaning. Leniency, isnt it?

Going against the consensus here but my favourite is Lyra Penelope Grin
For me Edith makes me think downton and while I love the show I don't like the character.

Mama varied opinions are good! I do have a soft spot for Lyra. I love that its a constellation and ill be able to show her her stars in the sky, and read her the Pullman books with her name as a strong, un-Disney-princess character. I am the teensiest but concerned it rhymes with liar. Although you can bully almost any name, penelope could be pee-face and Edith might be needy-edie or something! (Ok I'm not a brilliant name caller) DH's name rhymes with dick, prick, sick, thick and all sorts but I'm the first person to ever pick this up!

another vote for Lyra Penelope!

Definitely Delilah for me. Delilah Rose is pretty although personally i would avoid Rose as a middle name as it is so popular. Not keen on Edith. And definitely dont think Edith Bowman is cool!! Irritating yes. Cool, no!

Lyra Madeleine for me.

Or Madeleine Niamh (hate Nieve).

Edith Rose. Lovely.

Thanks everyone. remus it would be Nieve as in the Spanish (neeyeveh) which means snow. We live in Spain. Niamh would baffle the Spaniards completely as they struggle getting their heads around english selling to pronunciation!

It seems we are tied between Edith (Edie) and Lyra. DH loves Edie and not Edith, but we both like full names n bc, I like Lyra but DH thinks its only ok....

Fingers crossed for a boy!

However you feel about Penelope its awkward as a second name in my opinion.

Penelope Nieve? Like the idea around the Nieve and I like how this combo sounds

Is the german pronunciation Madd-eh-line as opposed to Madd-eh-linn?

I prefer the line way to the linn way :)

Yes nappy I prefer it too. We have 90% certain set on Edith (Edie) now so looking for suitable middle names!

Lyra Penelope or Delilah Rose.
I love Lyra, that is a cool, unusual but not out there name.
Dislike Edith, but then I can't stand all the old lady names.

Edith and Penelope (Nell) are my other 2 favourite names along with Madeline :) And Elsa.

I like your names

Edith isn't out there, it is classic, and unusual but recognisable which I like in a name.
I think Edith Rose works well, but don't think Edith works with the longer middle name

Like Penelope too and LOVE Madeleine They both work well with Rose.

I don't really warm to Lyra at all, and not sure of pronunciation? To rhyme with Myra? I want to say it like the first half of Lyrical, but I know that can't be right!
