Initials... Shall I change our babies name?

My son is 5 months old, and has a lovely name. However, his initials are ET (ETT) with middle name AND his first name is Elliott. Now, I have never seen the film ET, but since naming him have been made aware that the little boy in ET is called Elliott. Tell me what to do, is this an issue?

No! Not if you love the name. Not like it spells something rude. And who cares? Oh and watch the film, it's great.

Btw sweet name!

No! You are overthinking it. It wouldn't occur to me if I heard the initials and it would occur to someone 30+ years younger than me even less.

It didn't even cross my mind when naming him! We liked Ethan too and my dad made one comment "oh, no don't, his initials would be ET" and my mum told him to shut up so I didn't think it was an issue. Little did I know Elliott was in the film ET!! My husband failed to tell me....! It really bothers me though, I don't know why Sad

My best friend's initials are EET and I think she's referred to it once in our ten year friendship and even then it was a little joke. Never thought anything of it, her name is beautiful and suits her - it doesn't bother her and no one has ever commented. Don't stress!

(And if it helps, I have seen ET quite a few times in my life but never remembered the kid's name is Elliott!)

You don't need to do anything; it really isn't an issue. The film my be on TV from time to time, but, so what. It's not as if it spells a rude word or anything. How often do we use our initials anyway?

ET as initials are fine. They don't spell twat or anything.

Thinking about it, I've taught a boy called Elliott who had the initials ET. Didn't even cross my mind!

I have an Elliot, he's 10,and despite the fact the film was already 20 years old when I had him, some people thought it was because of the filmHmm. It didn't bother me, tbh.

His initials spell 'ELF'- he thinks this is brilliant, especially at Christmas.Grin

Congratulations on your Elliott.

My dd has initials EET and ds is EKT - not an issue at all

Report
nickelbabe · 02/02/2013 12:43

it's not an issue, don't worry.

i would think most children wouldn't even know ET the film (and those that did would probably think your DS was cooool for having those initials and that name)

Our DS has a short version of first name plus initial that spells out a rude/derogatory word which never occurred to us until he brought some stuff home from nursery with first name + initial Blush it's ok the name suits him and I still like the name I'm just careful how we write it.

I have an Elliot and I think the film association is cool too! I don' think the initials are a problem.

giraffe I'm roaring at 'They don't spell twat or anything' Grin

DDs initials spell ARM Grin

Also her name could be a job if said as 'first initial followed by surname'. Makes me chuckle, her too.
No-one else has ever noticed/said anything. I wouldn't worry OP, Elliott is a lovely name!

Absolutely fine. And its a great film, the boy is lovely in it, so I really don't think its a problem.

Dds initials are also ELF. She is 2.3 though so i doubt she cares. I never even considered initials.

I have an 18yo Elliot, no-one mentions the film ET TBH, so don't worry about it.Smile

I had crap initials before I was married! Really, really ridiculous ones, people commented once but rarely did they go on about it, I think I was the one most bothered because I had to live with them!

I love the name Elliott (hence choosing it) so am happy now! Just nice to have these comments, as I know you're not just saying it to make me happy and nice to know I'm not as mental as I thought
