Baby names

Amos, Jasper or Seth?

I like all 3 equally but Amos is a lot less popular than the others which makes me swing more towards it. However looking on Darkgreener it seems they are all speedily getting more popular! Aaargh!

Do you think Amos is likely to shoot up to near the top 100?

Do you have suggestions for similar names? I like:

Outside top 100
Easy to spell/pronounce
A name that sort of means something, e.g. has some history to it or is a nature name if that makes sense!

Jasper

Seth and Amos are a bit too Cold Comfort Farm

Hmm, would probably pick Jasper out of those three - have to admit that Amos conjures visions of a mid-West American yokel wearing a dilapidated hat and chewing on a piece of straw.

Other suggestions, definitely outside the top 100, but don't know how suitable:
Barnabas (Barney)
Dominic (know a nice (and handsome!) one of these)
Raoul
Hector
Joby (know a very good artist with this name)

Barnabas (Barney) - I don't like the idea of it on an adult
Dominic - Yawn
Raoul - A bit Hispanic sounding, don't feel like our background could carry it off!
Hector - Don't like Hec for short!
Joby - I generally don't like y/ie endings

Yep. I'm beyond fussy!

MerylStrop Hadn't heard of Cold Comfort Farm, just Wiki'd it! Some great names there!

Lovely names - my favourites are Seth and Amos. I expect that you are right and that they will become more popular, but they' 've still got a way to go, haven' t they? I know a couple of young J aspects, but no Seth's or Moans. You can drive yourself crazy trying to find a name that is fashionable but not popular (said bitterly,as someone who picked a name that was then in the lower half of the top 100 and is now riding high in the top five).

I wouldn't worry about the Cold Comfort Farm connection - surely it is becoming less well known (though you must read it). If the names do become popular, that connection will be diluted anyway.

Go on, do it: Seth and Amos rock!

Devora Seth and Jasper are close to the top 100 already and seem to be heading upwards (Can't stay off Darkgreener!).

Amos is heading up but still waaaaaaaay below the others. I don't want a name that's fashionable but not popular I want one that's neither but I like it!

For girls my faves are Claudia and Saffron, they fit my criteria and are actually on a downwards trend! Yay! Why Can't I find the male version of these?!

The fact that Amos is the least popular on this thread probably makes me like it more as in my experience Mumsnetters seem to be partial to trendy/hipster names!

I love all three and they were all on the list for dc2 and 3. I ended up with names that became much more popular and wish I'd been braver.

My 5 year old is called Amos, I love it. My favourite name ever Grin
Not keen on Seth, and really don't like Jasper.
Amos has only just entered the top 1000, so has a way to go before it is top 100!
How about Gregory, Silas, Jeremiah, Moses, Levi, Abraham?

Jasper.

Then Seth.

Not Amos.

Amos is the best of the bunch.

Then Jasper (for me it's too twilighty/soft), then Seth (too short and the eth ending is a bit awkward).

I have a 4.5 month old Amos (totally outing myself right now!) and I love the name so much. Nobody I've met IRL has known of another Amos except for one Nigerian woman. It definitely has the Marmite factor, which is kind of what I liked about it.

Our final 3 list was Amos, Rufus and Nathaniel if that helps, but honestly go for Amos even if other people pull their noses. Incidently, I know a Jasper who was born on the same day as my Amos...

I like Seth best out if the three names.

They're three good names OP...why not wait and see which suits him best? None would be a burden on him,so it's more what you think suits?

In a similar feel to Jasper : Felix,Hugo,Oscar?

Re Seth... How long is your surname? I'm not sure it would go well with a short, one syllable name.

Jasper is not my cup of tea. Amos is nice but Seth does it for me. I imagine Seth to be gentle yet manly.

Amos between the three. Jasper is okay, but feels weird saying it aloud.

Seth was the Egyptian God of evil and destruction, murdered his brother... I always get a shiver when meeting a Seth, I'll be honest.
