I like Elizabeth as it has so many nn's. Betsy, Beth, Betty, Liz, Lizzie, Liza, Bea etc

Evie is very tired.

I can't say I'm a fan of Elizabeth by any means but some of its diminutives are lovely.

Elizabeth without a doubt, much nicer name. Not as common as Evie

Just to echo what has already been said, Elizabeth wins this one, and wins it be several lengths.

There are tons of Evies out there now, and not just Evies, but also plenty of Evie-somethings too.

Right now, in my little part of Surrey, I know/know of:

Evie x 4
Evie-May x 2
Evie-Mae
Evie-Rose
Evie-Blue
Evie-Grace

Elizabeth. There are Evies everywhere!!

Definitely Elizabeth!

I'd go with Elizabeth.

But consider more 'formal' names like Evelyn, Evalina, Evaline, Eveline if you want to use Evie.

But I'm of the "give the kid a proper name" brigade that MN seems to hate!

I might be biased here, my name is Elizabeth smile But I always really appreciated my parents for giving me a name I could do what I liked with.

You're so right. Elizabeth is a true classic. Evie was a flash in the pan and I am so bored with Ava/Eva/Evie etc.

Elizabeth is very stylish and very versatile depending on her eventual personality. Love it.

I love Elizabeth so think I'll stick with that. It was only because husband said he wasn't keen but he'd go with the name if I really wanted. I didn't want to go with something we both didn't love. But deep down I don't think I could be happy with Evie.

Elizabeth - a gorgeous name, so long as you don't mind that they may end up as a Liz (which is fine, but nowhere near as nice). IMHO, a million times nicer than Evie (which is also fine, but not in the same league).

Agree with Somerset...too many girl names ending in 'ie' / 'y' that are popular at the moment.

SomersetONeil Sun 06-Jan-13 19:02:09

Evie is so, so popular, and of an era - and also goes with all the Milly, Lily, Molly, Tilly type names. It will sound tired and over-used very soon.

Elizabeth - no contest.

I dislike the name Evie. It's too cutesy, too EEEv-IEEE, if you know what I mean? Fine for a pet or a baby but not an adult. It is also very popular, which de-values it IMO.

Go for Elizabeth, its classy and has lots of NN'S, Libby, Lizzy, Beth, Bess, Eliza, Lisbet.

Would you consider Evelyn with Evie as a nn? Gives her the option of using a grown up name when she is older.

Startail Sun 06-Jan-13 17:55:24

Elizabeth, so many NNs it's a name she can make her own and never have to be called the same as anyone else in her class.

hygienequeen Sun 06-Jan-13 17:48:13

I really like both, but know lot's of Evie/Eva/Eve girls and only one Elizabeth ( and i like Elizabeth is a grown up name with pretty nn for smaller girls iyswim)

I've heard Ebie as a nickname for Elizabeth - would that sway your DH towards it at all?

Happykitten Sun 06-Jan-13 17:44:27

Hi, surname has one syllable so after a first name with more than one. Husband prefers Evie, I prefer Elizabeth. Any thoughts? Is Evie still a popular name? Thanks
