Ooh, Rosalind definitely - it's on my shortlist for our baby due in Feb. I think it's more of a "proper" name (our baby name book says that Rosalyn is a recent combination of names) and people are more likely to be able to spell it and say it without wondering if they've got it right, which will make life easier. So, if you wanted something a bit different then the others would be better!

Rosaline is lovely, it has literary credentials, she was in Romeo and Juliet.

Rosalind is ok but autocorrects to Rosaline.

Rosalyn is awful.

Rosaline for me :) Shakespearean and very elegant.

Rosalind. It's lovely.

THOUGH - I intensely dislike the NN Ros. Would this be an issue for you?

Rosalind is my favourite, and FWIW Alisvolatpropiis Rosaline autocorrects to Rosalind on my machine!

Roslyn is nice too.

Xmas Grin why does it not surprise me that autocorrect is not consistent? Is such a pita sometimes!

Mine once changed Hermione to gremlins so I wouldn't be heavily swayed by autocorrect,I was just mentioning what my phone did Xmas Smile

Rosalind is the ace lead character from As You Like It. Rosaline wasn't even in R&J, not really. :o

Rosalind is a proper Shakespearean heroine, feisty and funny. She wins the man (Orlando) and does so after making very sure she actually wants him. Rosaline in Romeo and Juliet rejects Romeo without ever appearing on stage and becomes a nun. Roslyn is a chapel.

My vote is for Rosalind. It would have been my second daughter's name but I stopped producing.

^^ true, that. I think I just love the exchange where Romeo and the Friar discuss where he's been (something like 'the sweeter rest was mine' and the friar says 'God pardon sin! Wast thou with Rosaline?' Grin

Particularly enjoyed Pete Posthlewaite in the baz luhrmann film, great delivery!

Prefer Rosaline/Rosalind. Classy name.

True enough about Rosalind being the better Shakespearean character. I just prefer the Rosaline spelling even though she ended up a nun having had no stage time.

I love Rosalind-also Rosamund which means 'Rose of the world' :)

Thank you,

I like the nn Ros.

Rosaline is my favourite spelling, but I'm worried there would be pronunciation problems. How would you all pronounce it?

Roz - ah - line for me :)

Report
LondonElfInFestiveCheerBoots · 11/12/2012 11:14

ROse - A - line. Which is odd as I'd pronounce Rosalind Roz-a-lind with a very small 'a' sound, closer to Roz-lind, I think possibly because Rosaline strikes me as a more girly name, I'd pronounce it in a more girly way.

Rosalind - definitely

Thought the 'mund' in Rosamund referred to mouth? (so lips like a rose?)

All nice but I probably warm to Rosaline the least and Rosalyn the most.
