Ds4 is due in 8 weeks and exp and I have been discussing names.

He has just text me and said he has found a name he loves.... Murry.

I said I like the name but that it is spelt wrong. I'm not 100% on the correct spelling but Murry just doesn't look right. So I googled and the most common version seems to be Murray.

(Or Moray, Muiredach, or Murrey as versions of the same name)

He says its Muríel (with a fada over the 'i'

Which to me is a girls name (Muriel's Wedding) and sounds nothing like Murray.

Any thoughts?

And now he's saying Murragh - that's not even close is it?

Murray is a boys name. Def has an a in it. Fairly common in Scotland. I like it

Like Murray mint?

Yep like the Murray mint Smile

Even with a fada Muríel isn't pronounced Murray is it? He would get teased at school and people would assume he was female if they didn't know him. It's like a boy named Sue!

Go with Murray, or your son will forever be called Muriel.

His latest suggestions are Finbar and Fergus.

At least he's taking an interest I suppose Smile

Murray.

Love Fergus and Angus, basically anything that I can use Gus for

I like Gus as a shortened version, I hadn't thought of that.

Fergus - OK, but a tractor really :)

Finbar - not my taste really.

But Jesus Wept - even Stanley is better than Murray!!

I appreciate that by DS4 names are harder to come by, but bloody hell, if this is what he's coming up with, best you find some soon!! Xmas Grin

These are his better suggestions. He was obsessed by Paidraigh (par-drik) for ages - nickname Patsy or Pob.

Does he like a drink, your DH? I'd like to have a beer with him and he can teach me new nicknames!
