Girls names I like...

Amber
Violet
Carol
Jean
Esme
Edith
Moya

Boys names..

Leon
Malachy- to be known as Mac.
Caleb
Ezekial

Middle names will be James and/or Anthony.

To give a bit of context- we are living in Ireland husband Irish me plastic paddy as Irish grandparents but raised in UK
Ds 1 has Irish name which at the time we were living in UK so thought we had made an oh so clever choice by resurrecting a beautiful but uncommon Irish name. Unfortunately when we moved back to Ireland we discovered that every other Irish parent had named their DS the same.
Dd1 has a beautiful, unusual and universally loved name- it is a real name not makeuppy.
Ds2 has a solid mumsnet approved name that is never out of vogue
Dd2 has a name which is very popular in UK but only really getting popular here but not top ten or anthing

Our Surname is an O' one so names ending in 'o' (Juno sob) are not great for us.
Also have to exclude eee sounds at the end of names as two dcs have these already and one dc's name is often shortenened to an eee sound despite my best efforts otherwise.

i absolutely bloody love Leon. you've got to do it.

out of your girls names, i would definitely choose Violet. when i registered ds1's name, the registrar's name was Violet. she said it was because the day she was born, those were the flowers her elder sisters gathered for her mother - just a lovely story which fits such a pretty name and flower.

congratulations on number five Grin

I adore Jean and Violet (both vetoed by DH).

I quite like all your boys names, but none jump out as the stand out choice.

I really like all your girls names except Moya. Violet is my favourite. Out of your boys list, Leon is ok. I don't like the others.

If you like Ezekial and Caleb, I liked old testament names like Josiah (nn Jed), Samson and Asher.

Leon is the only one I blanche at, tell the truth.
Zeke is tres cool.

famousfifth · 13/11/2012 23:04

I love biblical names..
The problem with Zeke as a nn is that blasted disney channel nonsense 'Zeke and Luther' - is the red haired one Zeke? 'Cos there is a strong chance this dc will be red haired!

Jean - no
Esme - no
Edith - dear lord, NO
Moya - I don't know this name. Is it Moy-uh?
Kathleen - no, Kathrine is nice though.

Leon - lovely, I know 2 really, really sweet little Leons and it makes me love the name/
Malachy- to be known as Mac. - not keen
Caleb - lovely
Ezekial - nice, haven't seen the Disney thing, but it makes me think of neighbours.
Shane - fine, but not as nice as the others.

Of your suggestions I like Violet and Edith for a girl and Cabeb and Malachy for a boy. Or how about Quentin as it means fifth in Latin (and is a lovely name)?

I like most of your names, they're all slightly unusual without presenting any potential "difficulties". I'll go against the grain and say Moya is my favourite!

Moya and Ezekiel get my votes.
