Smart Video Monitor

Hi everyone,

I'm a student looking at a project to develop a smart baby video monitor which can monitor a baby's heart rate and respiratory rate purely from video. Essentially the idea, is to take an ordinary baby video monitor and develop it to also do the work of what respiratory pads currently do, and without any attachments or devices on the baby.

I thought I'd just post on here to see if this is something that is of going to be helpful/useful to parents. Please let me know your thoughts on this :)

Well it might be an attractive idea for parents who have babies that are high risk due to special needs or due to having previously lost a child to SIDS but for your average parent with no huge fears, it would not be attractive I don't think.

Heart monitors are not something most people deem necessary for infants and they could possibly make a non medical person very anxious.

Ok, what if it provides not just the readings, but also reassurance that the baby is ok? And can provide alerts for when something bad happens?

I think a lot of first time parents would buy one, think of how many Angel Care monitors are sold. That's not to say that it would be necessary but so many parents are terrified when they bring their newborns home.
