Help me choose a layout for my first quilt please!

This is the first one, the colour's not brilliant but the border is a bright pink which picks out teeny tiny animals in the same colour in the green squares.... I will probably do a wide border in some other colour (not sure yet) around the whole thing.

Next post I'll stick a picture of the alternative layout.

Oops, used the wrong picture on the first post... Ok above is the plain quilt, this is the one with the pink border.

Which is better? I think if I just did the plain green and white checkerboard one I'd do a wide pink border around the whole lot.

I like the one in the second post.

With the pink? It does balance it a bit doesn't it?

It gives it a bit more focus. I think that without the pink, even if you put a wide border it doesn't really draw the eye in. I love quilting too!

If I went for the one with the border around the blocks, the next dilemma is what colour border should I put around the whole thing?

I'm dreading the actual quilting bit, I haven't a clue how I'm going to do it. Initially I'm going to quilt the ditches around the blocks but then I thought I might do vertical lines on the borders.

I wouldn't add another border. Have you seen Missouri Stars you tube tutorial on binding with the back fabric? I hate binding so I tend to put a thick border all around and then place my backing face to face, sew 3 3/4 sides and turn it right side out. Slip stitch close then stitch in the ditch around the border.

This is the one I'm doing now Smile

And this is my edging around it. There is a red border between the picture and the pin wheels.

I haven't seen that You Tube tutorial.. I'll hunt it out. I've made a few practice quilts for dd's dolls and my binding wasn't exactly beautiful! Grin

Your quilt looks gorgeous! I love the pin wheels!

Thank you! My binding is not the greatest so I choose the easiest option Grin (I am getting better at it!)
