Hello, I just wanted to see if there was anyone on here who lives near Saffron Walden, Essex and was interested in coming to a new knitting, crocheting, needlework etc group. We are setting one up to run on the last Monday or every month in a pub in Little Walden. If anyone is interested please do post or pm me!

Thanks.

Sorry to hijack - laurasmiles you might be able to help me please. I am trying to find information about the Shire Hill Crank Up - all I know is it is in (or near) Saffron Walden and took place annually - it's a steam/stationary engine rally. Do you know if this still takes place or where I might be able to find information from?
Sorry again for the hi-jack

Sorry mystery machine, I've never heard of it. There is Audley End railway which is a miniature steam railway - so if you contact someone there (look on Google for details), they are likely to be much better informe. Good luck!

Hi Laurasmiles, good luck with your knitting group I like to knit but haven't had time for the last few years!

Mysterymachine - Shire Hill is an industrial estate within Saffron Walden. I've not heard of the Crank up (I've only lived here just under 2 years). There are quite a few steam engine rallies that happen round here - a huge one at Great Chesterford each year and The Bell pub in Wendens Ambo has one in August.

Millarkie - thanks very much for the info, hopefully I will be able to find something out from what you have both said. It is an event my dh used to go to many years ago, we did try to get about 10 years ago but were too late (it took place the week before) but then other things took over so we never managed to sort out for following years. We would love to get ds into steam and stationary engines

Great pub for a knitting etc circle! Hope it goes well.
I don't think the steam engine event in Saffron Walden still exists. We live nearby and have friends with steam engines and it has never been mentioned - the nearest local ones are at Great Chesterford and Thurlow, near Haverhill.

HI Milarkie - I've not done much knitting either to be honest..plus I'm pretty much a beginner...but I'm up for picking it up again and having a natter with some new people (or a drink or two! ). If you fancy stopping by, our first group is on 26th January at 7.30pm in The Crown Pub at Little Walden.

Lilymaid - do you knit or have you ever thought of trying? We'd love to meet as many people as we can! For me it's a good socialising excuse!

Sophus! Yes yes yes!! We'd love to have you come. There will be people there who could definitely show you how to get going again, and we will have spare needles and yarn to use. The wools and needles are much nice than they used to be!
So far, four (possibly five) of us are planning to come. So, seriously, please do see if you can wangle a babysitter. It would be lovely to meet you I'm sure.

Here's hoping - Laura.

Hi Laura, I'm v.v.v.close to Little Walden (wondering if I know you?) and would love to learn to knit/crochet etc..if anybody was willing to help? At the moment I know absolutely nothing. I would love to come along if you weren't only looking for established knitters?

Sarah

How super to find another local on here.
Honestly, ANYONE is welcome!! I'm not from Little Walden myself but one of the women I found through a knitting webiste is and she has arranged for us to use the pub there, as they should have lots of space on a Monday evening. She doesn't post on here though, as far as I know. But you probably know her!!

There will be people there who would be MORE than happy to teach you to knit or crochet - so please do come and seek us out. None of us know eachother yet - so we'll all be starting off together.

Can you make this Monday coming?

Belgian Choccies and a DVD? If not - begging can work....
Typical isn't it - when everything comes at once!
Hopefully your babysitter will be able to manage it, but if not...perhaps next month.

Laura.
