What cashmere wool would you use for a blanket? Or something else soft.

I have wanted to knit a cashmere blanket for ages. I am not a great knitter (I can follow basic patterns etc.) but plan on making squares that can then be sewn together. I would love the softest blanket possible. Ideally cashmere. Can you please recommend to me your favourite softest cashmere brands?

I am not too bothered by budget as this blanket will have a special meaning for me.

Thanks.

I like the Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino. Merino wool and cashmere mix. It's very soft and snuggly - I use it for baby blankets a lot.

Thanks. Do you know what the highest cashmere content wool is? I will look into the Cashmerino.

Are you on Ravelry? There's a great yarn search tab there - you can put in that you want cashmere and wool and it will tell you all the different yarns available and the percentage cashmere. I think there's even a way to find if anyone near you sells it.

Debbie bliss baby cashmerio for me too. This page shows you all the cashmere yarn available from Deramores.
Debbie Bliss has the most colours and washes in the machine beautifully.

You will need to use a mix as cashmere does not have a good tensile strength. Like others have said, Debbie Bliss's Cashmerino is the best but be warned it will be expensive. I priced up a Nicky Trench blanket and even with my discount at the LYS it was around £225 just for the yarn.

It can be worth asking about for codes many of the magazines have codes for Deramores and wool warehouse in them which will give you 10 to 15% off which will help.

I crocheted a blanket out of Sublime Cashmerino.
I dread to think how much it cost, I bought the yarn over a two year period. Because I was using lots of different colours I tried to buy sale yarn where possible but it was still expensive

It is the softest snuggiest blanket I have ever made and I love it.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm off to look at Ravelry now. I'm being taken to a knitting and stitching show in October so I'll see if I can get a good deal then. Otherwise my friend gets a 25% discount at JL so I will get the wool from there. I don't mind spending some money on it as it has a special meaning for me.

I have made several blankets with baby cash merino. All have washed OK.
