If I do this, will the scarf have big loose stiches?

Thanks

I think so - I'm using 7.5 needles with flutterby ATM and it's quite open

The paper band on the ball of yarn will tell you what needle size is recommended for it and this will be based on the thickness of the wool. If you want big, loose stitches, knit the yarn with a larger needle size than is recommended. If you want tighter stitches then use the recommended needle size or smaller.
