I want to make some painted wooden signs this Christmas and want to download and print some vintage style fonts to cut out and use as templates. I've googled and googled but can't find what I really like which tends towards 1950s style fonts....there are loads of curly wurly Victorian style things out there....has anyone got any good websites they'd share please?x

Try Pinterest MrsW, it's great for links to fonts. I've got a font board here if you want a look, might be something you fancy.

Thanks Nell! Should I just print them out and enlarge?

You could do it that way and lightly trace the letter shapes onto your wood, then hand paint if you've got a steady hand. Just try it on some scraps first.

Or there is another way, I forget how I did it. Bear with and I'll have a look ...

I think I used this method when I made this funny looking article. poncetastic I know

I just used an old bit of skirting board and sanded it a bit then used that transfer method. The other way would be better if you wanted brighter colours and had a steadier hand than me. Grin

Or if you've got a Cricut/Silhouette or something like that you could make a stencil?

I'm on a roll now, just tell me to bugger off when you've had enough ...

Sticky letters and paint over?

here

Or this method? Although the sentiment is a bit vomiticious. Grin

Nell that's lovely! I don't have a circuit or anything...I have seen people use freezer paper and cut it out with a craft knife. I do have a steady hand....I'm just going to check out your links thanks!

Blech at "Excuse the mess, the children are making MEMORIES"

Mine would say "If you don't like my mess, you can piss off." Grin

My sister LOVES signs and has words everywhere...Sleep in the bedroom and COOK in the kitchen. I said her loo should have "Wee" and "Poo" in some nice distressed letters. She didn't see the funny!

What I want to do is nice, 50s style Christmas signs. With lovely lettering that looks impossible to replicate! Grin I always fancy myself doing this kind of thing but then get put off by the technical bits.

No worries MrsW I'm sure even in a padded envelope the postage won't be huge. I'm not sure what fonts are on there - or indeed if they will be any use to you but you are welcome to it. My flirtation with scrap booking was brief and expensive! Grin
