What would you make for a nursery?

Looking for ideas - I really want to knit some blankets and make our own bedding/ quilted throw/ line wicker baskets with the same fabric, but what else could I make?

Not keen on wall art/ things in frames etc but anything that we could practically use would be fabulous

Any ideas?

I would crochet something like this to hold nappies.

It's not really practical, but if you want to make something that will get years of use,dye some playsilks (google for instructions). The ones I made for DS's first birthday have been played with all the time by our children and visiting ones from 4 month old babies to tweens. Little babies can hold them, and hide under them and play peekaboo and they feel lovely and let in a soft dappled light. They can become dressing up clothes, or part of a fantasy landscape for trains or dolls or for going on an adventure. They can be dolls clothes, bandages, a circus tent, fairy wings, superhero capes, blankets, icebergs, beaches and rivers, crocodiles, parachutes and a squillion other things.

Oh that nappy holder is adorable! I can't crochet but that has inspired me to learn

Playsilks sound fabulous - hadn't thought of different textures

How about a couple of taggy blankets, or some dribble bibs?

Dribble bibs sound cute!

What's a taggy blanket? Blush

These are taggy blankets. Both my dc loved playing with the little ribbon tags as babies and using them as a comforter.

I asked a similar question a couple of months ago, and got some great ideas. Our DC1 is due in november.
So far I have knitted a blanket for a pushchair / carseat blanket (made from v cheap acrylic, theorising that when it drops into a puddle it'll be easy to wash!); a couple of cardigans and some hats; and have bought some bright fabrics in different textures to sew into a play mat. Was really pleased with these - I bought cheap remnants from an online shop in fleece, fur, narrow and wide corduroy, velvet, ripstop nylon, brushed cotton, and a few others. I plan to sew them in a simple patchwork of large squares and back with some thick batting. I'm also planning to sew some bunting for the nursery, and perhaps a mobile made from felt.

Am definitely adding taggy blanket to the list as I have a LOT of ribbon at home, looks like a great idea. I have also made some simple sewn blankets for friends' babies, brushed cotton on one side and minky / cuddle fabric on the other, simply sewn wrong sides together, turned right way out, and top stitched.

I was tempted to sew a moses basket liner but have been persuaded it's not really worth the effort :-)

I found a great book called Sew Tiny by Jazz Domino Holly, with loads of great baby projects. Theres lots of toys, blankets, cute clothes, changing mat etc. I've made the cloud mobile and felt baby moccasins, and about to try the baby bloomers.
Got it from the library too, so free!

I made two of these for DS for storing nappies, muslins etc, they've proved very useful www.noodle-head.com/2012/12/basket-for-baby.html

The pattern is described as an Advanced Beginner level, I had a few scratchy head moments but I think it'd an accurate level.
