Yarn for baby blanket

Hoping for some yarn recommendations please! I want to make an "as you go" blanket for my baby daughter and would like to make it in something lovely but also easy enough to wash. I'm making her a few other things in acrylic so would like something a bit more special (but not crazy pricey). I also want something that comes in lovely bright colours as well. Any suggestions much appreciated!

I'm currently making a baby blanket in Drops Baby Merino. It's about £3 a ball (although I bought in the Drops sale a while back so you can get it for much cheaper) and it's lovely to work with. Good selection of colours too.

I use Peter Pan - it is beautiful quality, about £4.50 for 100g and is machine washable

I just bought a boat load of Debbie Bliss Mia on Luxury Yarns as she's having a 40% off sale so it was only about £2.50 a ball!

I love your name!

I've just finished an 'as we go' blanket for my new nephew, and I did use acrylic so it could be easily washed.

It was really enjoyable to crochet, I think I. Going to make another but all in one colour as I think it will look very effective.

King Cole Baby Comfort is really good quality acrylic, very soft and lovely colours.

Hehe just covering all bases Loodle!

Thanks for all the tips - I'm gonna get looking them all up now! So excited about making it! Although I have so many things on the go it is very naughty of me to be considering starting another project Smile

I love patons smoothie or style craft Dk. Am doing a granny stripe blanket in style craft and it's lovely. Look on woolwarehouse.com as it's very well priced and they have loads :)

This is a hard one OP.

I knitted and crocheted a few blankets for my daughter. For one of them I used a beautiful, expensive and supposedly superwash yarn. Lets just say that it didn't survive my daughters baby brain in those first few weeks. It felted quite badly, although it was still perfectly usable and looked almost deliberate, if you didn't know otherwise. I don't regret knitting it because the yarn was so be lovely to work with and the finished result was perfect.

Generally speaking new mums don't have time for sorting the laundry.

What about Sirdar Snuggly? I'm not too sure how it washes, but it should be fine and is quite nice to work with.

Which acrylic did you use? Stylecraft Special DK is very good for a man made yarn.

Sirdar Snuggly is the best of the acrylics IMO.

Rowan Wool Cotton is my personal favourite, the 50% cotton stops it being too hot/itchy I think, and it comes in lovely colours not just predictable pastels.
