Hi, I want to make a present for my dd, I thought about doing her name in buttons on a canvas. Has anybody tried this and did it turn out ok?
Ive already got a hot glue gun, will this be ok to use or is there another type of glue I should use?

You could do a button tree, the glue gun will work really well. It's a really effective look. Smile

If you look at my pics, i've made a couple of button pictures. They work really well with a hot glue gun and putting them on card and then framing them in a box frame. I would imagine that putting them on a canvas will be fine. Would love to see the result!

A nice idea I have seen is to get one of those 3D letters made of card or ply - craft shops do them, the larger ones are better. Then paint a suitable background colour and stick on buttons - either in contrasting or complimentary colours, or a rainbow effect. You can just do one big initial or smaller ones to make a name. They look good just stood on a shelf or headboard, or stuck on a door.

It's actually a lovely activity to get kids to do themselves, even toddlers with a bit of help.

If you are doing a canvas, paint the letter/name on to it first following your general theme (springtime colour buttons and pale green, wintery with blue etc...) and let it dry- gives a much nicer crisper finish when you do not see white canvas underneath.

Also looks nice when you fill in with occasional tiny rhinestone/gems between some buttons, I always add the odd charm too - a little ladybird/fairy or something makes it special to the child, especially if they have to look to find it.
