Just starting a thread for all folk who are into photography - whether you are a happy snapper wanting to improve, a serious shooter, or somewhere in between.

Lets chat on here, share tips, techniques, dilemmas, ideas, show our photos if we want to, discuss cameras and equipment, support and encourage each other.....or just chat whatever photography related chat you might feel like! Smile

This thread prompted me to start this one, to open out the fab discussion we've been having on there to anyone with an interest in photography, as an ongoing chat thread.

As for me, I'm pretty much just starting out, I was 'into' photography many years ago as an art student with an old school SLR, had a break for many years and have just treated myself to a DSLR (Nikon D3300), so need to re-learn 'proper' photography from scratch really.

I'll join! I'm a blogger, just treated myself to a DSLR after 18 months with a bridge camera (which I only ever used in auto mode Blush Got a photography workshop booked next month, v excited though I'm a total novice so will probably make a tit of myself!

Great! Glad to have you on board, LabradorMama Smile

I like the sound of a photography workshop, I'm looking into that for myself too. Never mind looking a tit, we've all got to start somewhere!

I am a amateur photographer.

These are small on here but here are a couple of my favourites. These are three of my little ones.

I'll join too - I've had a DSLR (Canon 450D) for years which I keep meaning to use in manual modes, but auto is quicker. I am about to start a photography course in a couple of weeks, and I'm really excited!

Ooh those are very good U2...how did you do the lighting for them, or is it natural light?

Welcome, SigningGirl Smile. Another person doing a course! Fab

They were all natural light I think.

I mainly use window light but they were taken in a busy background so I use a little light with a darker background to make it unnoticeable.

I am a happy snapper, in that I had all the gear, did the quals, processed all my films and printed b&w and colour prints in dark rooms and learnt all the rules then decided to sell the dslr and focus on my oly ep-1 and old school cameras like my holga. I'll post some photos once I am back on the mac.

Labrador, what do you blog about? There's a real art to taking good photos for blogs, so I hear.

Lovely use of the light, U2.

Hello and welcome, Funky. Look forwards to seeing your photos when you get round to it.

Thank you.

I need to take some more soon. I got into a bit of a rut with it all but now the weather is getting nice again I hope to get back into it.

More cool shots there, U2. I particularly like the portraits, I think you've got a real eye for them.

Bloody mumsnet keep messing up tonight.

Yeah, portraits is my thing. I don't like doing landscapes and don't have the patience for nature as they fly off all the time.

I've been reading the tutorials on this website tonight; very informative (if a little technical).

Can I join please? I've got a DSLR that I've only ever used on auto, and a little 8 year old Fuji finepix that I keep on using as it's more convenient to grab for snaps. I have bought some photography books but not had time to read them. I was thinking of doing a course at college.

DH has got back into photography in the last couple of years. He has joined a few groups on line and they sometimes have shoots with themes, with models provided etc
these steampunk ones are my favorites of dh

He has now got to the stage where he rented a studio with lights for himself and got a couple of other photographers along and a model and they did their first independent shoot.

If you are anywhere near north london then Ray Lowe in Cheshunt does excellent classes and they can often be found on groupon

As this thread is in _chat, won't it just get deleted after 90 days?

(so it says at the top)

I am here too....

I mostly take pics of cats/dogs and cakes. And lots of scenery. Oh and photos in the dark too.

I have a NikonD3200, but not averse to instagraming on my phone either.

I'll put some pics up later....it's too early to be wrestling with MN uploads Hmm

I have an organic gardening blog - and use many of my images on there.

I do old style cyanotypes, macros with under or over exposures, selective focus...

Hello all. My thing is wildlife photography. My main hobby was wildlife-watching long before I ever picked up a camera, but the photography has added a whole new dimension. I don't have amazing gear compared to the serious wildlife 'togs' and feel I still have much to learn on the technical side but I enjoy it all hugely.
