hello everyone. i have written a new blog post here ifonlyicouldcrochet.blogspot.co.uk/ perfect for valentines day - little cute love hearts using the magic circle technique.

Ideal for beginners, in fact I am testing it out on some learners this week.
Bit worried about what they might think or if the pattern is even correct (wood for the trees and all that!) So if you fancy giving it a shot I would love to see the results!

oooh, I am planning a ripple blanket too. What colours have you gone for? I am veering towards sixties inspired light blues, yellows, oranges and browns.

it is getting the colours right which I really struggle with. After so many hours, it would be awful to get to the end and hate the result!

I have loads of dk baby colours that need used up so its baby blue, white, mint baby green, white, lemon, white then start again with blue.

It is so easy which with a newborn is what I need. My 2 older DC are fighting over it. Think once I have finished I will do another in wool that wasn't bought from the cheap shop for £1 a ball

Never tried your heart will try later if kids go for a nap at same time

I have just tried out 2 other crocheted hearts from online tutorials, so I'll have a go at yours too and let you know :)

aaaw - that is so pretty!

I had my crochet class last night - see my blog for more. But suffice to say, the magic circle technique and the heart was all a bit to much for them...

But we are having another session in a few weeks, so hopefully they will be more practised by then!

Going to to de a swatch for my ripple blanket tonight to see how to sort out the colours.

I thought your description of the magic circle was great, actually. I am a bit of a crochet novice - I've been able to do a basic chain and slip stitch for years (since my mum showed me when I was little) but never actually made anything or got any further.
Then last year I sort of started up again and looked up a few tutorials etc.
I'm now finishing my first granny square blanket, have done a couple of beanies and am playing around with things like the hearts (with the idea to appliqu them onto hats and scarves at some point).

I've done another one following your tutorial now, with a much thicker yarn but without the last row around the edge. It looks great! Def. my favourite crocheted heart so far. Thank you for the pattern :)
