Silent Setter

I bought a silent setter on Sat (and paid 6 quid more for it than YorkieGirl Grrrr) and i cant seem to get it to work.

I am putting the paper on the mat and then putting the stainless steel bit and pressing down really hard but it just leaves an imprint of a circle.
I dont think i could press harder, am i doing something wrong?

are you twisting slightly as you press down?

a little twist of the wrist. If you're still having problems rock it from side to side and then front to back. You'll get the hang of it Jenk1- it's fab

It took me a couple of goes to get the knack too.

you do need to apply a bit of pressure downwards at the same time as twisting IYKWIM.

I have my sights on a crop-a-dile now, it's a hand held punch type. silent and can even punch thru metal!!

right, DH has figured it out but once you have the eyelet set in the hole how do you stop it from falling out?

Turn the paper over and use the silver 'bit' in the silent setter. Put that on the back of the eyelett and press down and rock a bit. This 'sets' the eyelett

think ive been doing it majorly wrong then.

I used the silver bit to try and punch a hole and the black bit to push the eyelet in, am i wrong then?

Yes Jenk. Use the black bit witht he hole in the end to make the hole. put the eyelet in and then turn the paper over with the eyelett in. use the silver bit then to twist/rock to set the eyelet. Be careful you don't twist too much cos you could rip the paper. Its also better to stand directly above it if you're using paper so that you don't rip it
